We are in Florence eating beautifully grown and prepared vegetables, fruit and meat...while at the same time thinking about spring planting at Wit’s End: tomatoes, spring onions. cucumbers, peppers, etc..

This year's citrus crop is overflowing everywhere! Wit's End has a bumper crop of Golden grapefruit....the juice is an incredible melon-pink...joyful to behold but lovelier to eat: no need to section it, juicy, and no need to add sugar...a zillion seeds in the center but luckily they are easy to remove...

The tomatoes are gone....again! BUT the jarred sauce (over 30 quarts) are gleaming on the shelves waiting to be used for lasagna, chili, soups, etc. this fall...cucumbers are growing either straight and slender, the best for pickles or over night they turn into baseball bats! Go figure! Sweet potatoes will be ready to harvest August 1st. Goodness....another season...here today....ready for the next plantings soon enough..
