Debating the “Pandora’s box” of mixing beers
“You open up a Pandora’s box. American styles are usually aggressive, and much more complex than traditional English styles,” he says. “They’re not as ubiquitous, because we have so many craft beers. There’s no American craft beer equivalent of Guinness or Harp.”

Combining beers is either a mortal sin or a completely natural part of beer appreciation, depending on your perspective. What’s the future of this controversial practice?

Do Dirty Beer Lines Actually Make You Drunker?
Not drunker. But dirty draught lines can indeed make you sicker. “Draught lines should be cleaned every four weeks, or any time a bar is changing from one style of beer to another,” says Mandie Murphy, co-owner of Toronto’s Left Field Brewery. “Bacteria can build up in draught lines, and over time, that can make you sick and make the beer taste off.”
And, says Roger Mittag, founder of Ottawa-based beer education company Thirst For Knowledge, it can cause calcification in draught lines, commonly known as beer stone. “But I wouldn’t expect someone to get more intoxicated from them,” he adds. The thing that actually makes you drunker? Pounding beer on an empty stomach.

How Important is Line Cleaning?
We all know that regular beer line cleaning can be a bit of a grueling task so why do we bother? Here are 15 reasons from Houston Draft Solutions President, John Torentinos III, as to why it is so important.

If you're having problems with too much foam, losing beer, don't feel like your pressure is set correctly, or you don't feel confident pouring a draft beer. As a business owner you need an experienced reliable service to do the job efficiently. We have over 20 years of experience and education in this industry as EXPERTS. We can help!
Some of these problems can arise by fluctuations in gas pressure, refrigeration not being set to the proper temp, wrong equipment being used, dirty draft system, beer lines, and fobs.
Ideally, beer lines should be cleaned between each keg once every fourteen days or once a month at a minimum and deep cleaned every ninety days. Over time, beer will produce mineral and protein deposits in the draft lines. Bacteria and mold can work their way into the lines and yeast can form colonies as well. Let us maintain your beer lines the RIGHT way!
Maintaining your draft beer system right out of the gate will prevent problems in the future affording you the opportunity to pour the highest quality beer with the highest possible yield.
Draft maintenance includes:
Cleaning tap beer faucets (removal of faucets, taking faucets apart, and brushing the faucets)
Cleaning beer couplers (prevents pollutants from contaminating kegs when changed)
Cleaning towers and tap handles (provides for a more appealing presentation for customers)
Clean draft lines, fobs, and other equipment (using a 2% solution and circulation pump)
When cleaning lines Houston Draft Solutions uses line cleaning products that clean the most stubborn draft lines. The solution was formulated to attack not only the beer stone but every element of beer line soils. Used as directed, it eliminates mineral crystals, hops, resins, proteins, carbohydrates, and biofilms that are embedded or adhere to they polymers of the beer tubing. The trace line indicator identifies that lines are being cleaned.
