Presented by Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI), Art + Feminism, and the Houston Public Library, the Linking Q***r Houston History Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon takes place on Saturday, October 10, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM CDT in the Meeting Room at the Freed-Montrose Neighborhood Library. Celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month, this free, hands-on event (for ages 18+) invites participants of all experience levels to learn how to create and update Wikipedia entries highlighting Houston’s q***r history using archival media from TAMI’s KPRC-TV Collection—part of the CLIR and Mellon Foundation–funded Digitizing Hidden Special Collections and Archives: Amplifying Unheard Voices project. Training, reference materials, and refreshments are provided, but attendees must register via Houston Public Library in advance and bring their own laptop, charger, and a pre-created Wikipedia account.

Join us for the second iteration of Spooky Stories from the Stacks, a virtual roundtable where archivists share our encounters with haunting histories, creepy collections, mysterious materials, eerie repositories, and anything else that’s sent a shiver down our spines while working in the stacks! We’re excited to be joined by special guest Megan Rosenbloom (Megan Rosenbloom) author of “Dark Archives: A Librarian’s Investigation into the Science and History of Books Bound in Human Skin,” for a Q&A about her research on anthropodermic bibliopegy. We also invite YOU to submit your own spooky story through our submission form — you can share it yourself during the event, or ask one of our AHA! hosts share it on your behalf. 📣 Job Opportunity 📣 The Archivist of the Impossible will primarily preserve, arrange, and describe archival collections in the Center for the Impossible, which represent anomalous experiences in a variety of areas. This staff member will provide first-line reference services and search guidance primarily for the Impossible collections to on-site and off-site researchers. They will work with the Head of Special Collections / Director of Woodson Research Center and the Executive Director of the Center for the Impossible to identify material appropriate for digitization and presentation on the web and participate in user education, lectures, and tours. They will also train and supervise processing assistants in collaboration with the Head of Special Collections. This position reports directly to the Head of Special Collections / Director of the Woodson Research Center, Fondren Library, where the Center for the Impossible collections are preserved, and will work closely with the Executive Director of the Center for the Impossible, whose position is part of the Woodson Research Center, Fondren Library.

Join AHA! for our second program in our Archives Month 2026 lineup! The The Menil Collection Library is excited to highlight some of its rare and unique treasures, including a selection of livres d’artistes, focusing on the intersection of art, macabre themes, and surrealism. Featured items include Édouard Manet’s Le Corbeau, a variety of titles written and illustrated by Edward Gorey, a stunning copy of the Limited Editions Club’s publication of The Fall of the House of Usher featuring illustrations by Alice Neel, along with a few other published works related to surrealism.

This program will be led by Donna Török-Oberholtzer. As Associate Librarian for the Menil Collection Library, Donna oversees library operations and stewards the museum’s special collections. Grounded in her experience with painting and printmaking, her work focuses on preserving historical materials, expanding resource accessibility, and supporting research in art history and visual culture.

The University of Houston (UH) Libraries seeks a collaborative and resourceful candidate for the position of Audiovisual Archivist. This position is part of the Special Collections department, which supports teaching, learning, and scholarship, on campus and globally, with primary source collections of distinction in priority collecting areas including university archives, energy and sustainability, Houston and Texas history, women’s studies, performing and visual arts, and LGBT history. The Audiovisual Archivist will work closely with archivists, librarians, and staff to achieve the goals of the Special Collections department in alignment with the strategic priorities of UH Libraries.

Our first program of Archives Month 2026 will be our annual Archives Blitz! Register at the link in our bio 🌟

Archives Blitz is an annual service day when we invite AHA members to volunteer their time and skills to help a local archives organization with a project they need an extra hand with. Blitz activities may include rehousing archival materials, data entry, digitization, arrangement, and description. The ultimate goal of this program is to provide support for our partner and peer organizations by offering our time, expertise, and passion for archives.

This year, we will be volunteering to digitize, label, inventory, and research 20th century maps held by the Galveston County Historical Museum. Thank you to the Lunar and Planetary Institute for allowing us to use some of your scanning equipment for this project!
