We're so grateful to everyone who joined us for the 2025 Cook-Off! Your enthusiasm, creativity, and appetites helped contribute to mission to Save Lives One Borscht at a Time.

We are incredibly honored to share this special message from Ukraine's beloved Chef Ievgen Klopotenko as we prepare for our 4th Annual Houston Borscht Cook-Off!
In this inspiring video, Chef Klopotenko speaks beautifully about the diversity and deep significance of borscht to the Ukrainian people. More than a beloved dish, borscht represents our identity, our regional traditions, and the culinary heritage that binds us together - no matter where we are in the world.
Chef Klopotenko's message extends beyond Houston: he encourages Ukrainian communities across the USA and around the globe to organize similar events, bringing people together through food while raising much-needed aid for Ukraine. His vision reminds us that every gathering, every bowl of borscht, every act of solidarity makes a real difference.
HTX4UKRAINE was inspired to create the Houston Borscht Cook-Off after watching Chef Klopotenko's and Film.UA's moving documentary "Borscht. The Secret Ingredient." We are deeply grateful to the Chef for his inspiration, his dedication to preserving Ukrainian culinary culture, and his continued support of our mission.

We’re excited to introduce this year’s amazing judging panel:

👔 Vitalii Tarasiuk – Consul General of Ukraine in Houston, bringing cultural insight and a true Ukrainian perspective.

🍽️ Ryan Lachaine – Chef at State of Grace, a well-known figure in Houston’s culinary scene with bold, creative flavors.

💼 Andrij Burchak – CEO of SUMA Credit Union, an organization with a long history of supporting Ukrainian projects and community initiatives.

🍴 Jonathan Levine – Chef and Owner of Jonathan’s the Rub, offering decades of culinary experience and love for traditional dishes.

We are grateful to our judges for supporting the Ukrainian community and helping make this event special.
