UPDATE: Claimed!

🐣 Hatching Egg TRADE OPPORTUNITY! 🐣

Since I’m officially done selling hatching eggs for the spring season, I’ve decided I’ll be randomly opening up very limited trade opportunities for Fall 2026 hatching eggs! 🍂

This is a special ✨ chance to reserve hatching eggs before fall pre-sales even open!

1ST OPPORTUNITY: ISO 4 MaticoopX 30 quilted incubator covers 🧵

🤦‍♀️ My incubators aren't retaining heat like they used to (so says my hygrometers) and I’m wanting to fix this problem.

If you make these items (or know someone who does), let me know. I’d love to trade hatching eggs 🥚 for your work. Details to be discussed with interested parties. 💛

🐣 Guess the Breed & Gender! 🐣

Take a close look at these little fluffballs here on our farm and drop your best guess in the comments.

💛 Bonus points if you explain the details around why you think the genders are what you guess!

I’ll reveal the correct answers later and see who gets it right. 👀🍿

🫶🏼They are the same breed.
🫶🏼No cheating! 🤫😂

🦗🐔 CICADA SEASON IS HERE! 🐔🦗
(👉🏼Share with Chicken Lovers!)

I just spotted my 1st cicada of the year (mid-June), which means one thing… FREE chicken treats! 😂

If you’ve got chickens, let them enjoy the bounty!

Cicadas are:
~ Loaded with natural protein (around 21g per 100g)
~💰 Completely free, which can help offset feed costs
~ Easy for chickens to catch since they’re slow, clumsy, and defenseless
~ Safe and non-toxic – they don’t bite, sting, or carry diseases that harm chickens

Want to save some for later? You can even collect extra cicadas and freeze them for a high-protein winter treat when bugs are scarce.

My flock goes crazy when they find one - or when I throw one to them! 😂

❓Have you seen your first cicada yet this year, or are you still waiting, and how do you use them?

Who else has started moving 🚚 birds and rearranging pens lately? 🙋‍♀️🐓

I feel like this time of year is all about shifting breeding groups, separating grow-outs, making room for projects, and trying to stay one step ahead. Although I always feel behind. 😂

Am I the only one constantly playing chicken Tetris, or are y’all moving birds around too? 🐥🏡

I saw this & immediately my mind went to flies 🪰 because that’s all we are dealing with over here right now. I bought fly predators so I’m hoping that helps!

Has anyone used them? Tips?!

☀️SUMMER COOLING IDEAS FOR CHICKENS 🐔

🌟 Save & Share 🌟

Summers can be brutal for our flock, so here’s a giant list of ways to help our chickens stay comfortable!

TOP 15 WAYS to keep chickens COOL ❄️:
(Feel free to add yours via comments)

1.🌳 Shade, shade, shade!
Install shade cloth or put up umbrellas over runs. A 50%-75% shade cloth can often lower temperatures underneath by around 10–15°F, depending on airflow and conditions. Simply doubling layers doesn’t equal double the cooling, but extra shade can help if it still allows good ventilation.

2.💨 Fans
A simple box fan or outdoor fan doesn’t cool the air itself, but it increases airflow, helping birds lose heat more efficiently.

3.🌬️ Swamp Cooler
Perfect for boujee chickens like mine. Great to run during the hottest parts of the day.

4.💦 Misters
Great in dry climates! A fine mist cools the surrounding air through evaporation. (In very humid areas, they may not be as effective.)

5.🚰 Multiple water stations
Instead of one big waterer, place several around the run so lower-ranking birds always have easy access to cool water.

6.🧊 Frozen gallon jugs
Freeze milk jugs or 2-liter bottles and place them in waterers or around the coop. They slowly release coolness without watering everything down. If you use distilled water for incubating eggs, save those jugs!

7.🍉 Cold/Frozen treats
Watermelon, cucumber, frozen peas, berries, or chilled lettuce can provide hydration and enrichment.

8.🛁 Kiddie pools or shallow trays
Some chickens enjoy standing in cool water, though many just drink from it. Keep it shallow and refresh often.

9.⛲ Solar-powered fountain
Adding one to a shallow pool may help keep the water moving and fresher while encouraging birds to drink. I use a bubbler and disc to keep clean.

10.🪵 Wood chips or mulch
A thick layer can stay cooler than bare dirt and helps prevent mud around water stations. Bonus - it’s free locally!

11.🏡 Excellent ventilation
Open coops with plenty of airflow are much better than tightly enclosed buildings. Hot air needs a place to escape.

12.🧱 Cool pavers or concrete blocks
Place them in the shade or spray them with water occasionally so birds can lie against them. You can also put them in pools.

13.🌿 Create cool zones
Plant shrubs, sunflowers, or vines around the run to provide natural shade and cooler microclimates.

14.🥣 Dust baths in the shade
Move or create dust bathing areas where they stay shaded all afternoon.

15.🧊 Freeze feed pans
Chill metal bowls or shallow pans before putting out treats so they stay cooler longer.

* Make sure to avoid overcrowding - Extra space means better airflow and less body heat trapped in one area.

🥚✨ I received this new egg platter and couldn’t resist taking a photo while I still had enough eggs to fill it!

With these Texas temperatures heating up, the girls have definitely slowed down on laying. ☀️(That’s one of the many seasonal changes that comes with chickens.)

If you’re in the South, are your hens slowing down or are they still laying strong? 👇

P.S. Wildflowers 🌺 are from our property
