Second Ward Super Neighborhood 63

Second Ward Super Neighborhood 63 SN63 is a conduit to local officials and making change for the
better in our historic neighborhood.

One of Houston’s four original neighborhoods, Second Ward is arguably the most historic and culturally significant area of the city. El Segundo Barrio is defined by its proud heritage and Hispanic identity while having played host to settlement by several different ethnic groups over the y

ears. Today, the area remains primarily Hispanic but is now home to a diverse population of cultures, multi-generational families, an influx of new residents, and residents of different socio-economic backgrounds. The location and neighborhood culture are primary attractions to entrepreneurs investing in the re-emergence of El Segundo Barrio as a business hub to professional services, manufacturing, food service industry, and technology. Super Neighborhood 63 represents Second Ward, Houston as a conduit and a liaison to local council members and making change for the better in our neighborhood. The boundaries of El Segundo Barrio are identified by Buffalo Bayou, until it reaches the Eastern boundary at Union Pacific Railroad, where it borders Central Park Subdivision. The Southern boundary is also Union Pacific Railroad parallel to Capital Street and the Western boundary continues following the Union Pacific Railroad until it reaches Jensen then it goes Northwest until it reaches freeway 59 North, and it follows 59 North to Buffalo Bayou.

Across Houston, old industrial sites still sit vacant because of the contamination left behind. These brownfields often exist right next to homes, schools, and parks, making cleanup and redevelopment urgent.

Houston Land Bank is helping lead the way in transforming these sites.
