Did you see the sunset tonight? Like an apricot, or a blood orange. We sat outside to wrap up the day, to watch the sun set, and certainly didn’t expect this.
No clouds, just haze from the Canadian wildfires.
An Aunt of mine said if you stand with your back to the moon and look through your knees, the moon looks bigger. (Yes, this always made us giggle). We never thought to do it to a sunset.

‘Tis the season for eggs! After incubating eggs and hatching chicks last season, it was disappointing to find that a large percentage of the chicks were little roosters. Evidently that has something to do with temperature! When the eggs chill during the process, more roosters develop. I never knew that! Having too many roosters is not good for a flock of hens, and egg production plummets.
We’ve been working on getting that balance right all season. Remember Ma Ingalls saying, “Whistling girls and crowing hens, always come to some bad ends?” Once the rooster population is down, there are always one or two hens that really do start to crow, and are really roos, just waiting for their chance to out sing their dearly departed competition.
And now you know more than you ever thought to ask.
