Severe thunderstorms left the farm's well without power so we spent our 4th of July trucking a few hundred gallons of water to the animals making sure they stay properly hydrated through the end of this heat wave.

This is what we picture when folks ask us why we feed our herd instead of just "letting them live off the land". What do our cows have available from nature in this weather?

A little fun fact: When temperatures drop below 20-30*F cattle consume up to 25% more forage (hay) to stay warm. The increased consumption fuels higher metabolic rates using digestion to create internal heat.

High quality forage acts as an "internal furnace" so we are sure to have plenty of good hay on hand before winter arrives!
