At Puna Island Seafood, we understand that the welfare of billions of people — and indeed the stability of all life on earth — depends on the sustainability of vibrant, healthy oceans. Overfishing across the globe has driven numerous species to extinction and ocean ecosystems to the point of collapse. Developing and commercializing sustainably sourced seafood is the most tractable path for ensuring seafood sustainability and improving the health of our oceans for the next generation. This understanding is at the core of everything we do.
Our products are always 100% chemical-free! Many seafood companies utilize additives and chemicals intended to retain water and weight inside the products they sell. In fact, according to the New York Times, “Sodium bisulfite is used to keep shrimp shells from undergoing melanosis (also called black spot), which is a darkening of the head and shell after the shrimp are harvested and exposed to oxygen. This reaction is harmless — think of it as the marine equivalent to the browning of apple flesh after you cut it.” Here at Puna Island Seafood, we are proud to never engage in these practices. In fact, the process through which we cultivate, package and ship our products are as important to us as the product themselves. Rest assure that our seafood will always be free of chemicals and additives.
Puna Island Seafood company began in 2019 with a mission to provide the absolute best in wild caught & farm raised seafood the planet had to offer. WE then began to expand our vision, wanting to include sustainably sourcing, responsible and innovative processing, complete traceability of the packed product in all production. Fast forward to 2021 and we now have sustainably sourced seafood down to a science. We are proud to say that Puna Island Seafood is both socially responsible and highly reputable for the exceptional seafood products that we provide. We look forward to sharing our company and seafood with you.
