Does your livestock match your pasture?

Cattle, sheep and goats use pastures differently.
- Terrain: Goats and sheep tend to use steeper areas than cattle.
- Plant Types: Cattle eat mainly grasses while goats browse more shrubs and trees. Sheep are intermediate and have less preference for a specific plant type.
- Selection for Plant Parts: Cattle have large broad mouths and cannot select specific plant parts well, instead they typically take large bites of plants. Sheep and goats have small mouths with prehensile lips which allow them to select specific plant parts

Grazing multiple species can often be complementary, resulting in broader use of available plant types and pasture terrain.

Disease testing and prevention is one of our top priorities. Since we first received our goats we have never has a positive case of Johne or CAE. Through annual testing and strict bio-security protocols we are hoping to keep our herd disease free.

What a weekend! We picked the giant pumpkins. Josh grew these pumpkins just as he’s done for years. Three giants this year, Chunky weighed 569, Lumpy weighed 554, and Dumpy weighed 364.

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped us pick these bad boys.

Lumpy and Dumpy will be sent to the zoo. Dumpy will be crushed and eaten by Elephants. Chunky will be professionally carved for Boo At the Zoo.

Chunky is currently on display at the end of the drive way.

Josh did an amazing job growing these beauties. Can’t wait to see what he grows next year!

To end off our Classification announcement posts we saved the best for last. The funny thing is, we were originally planning to sell this goat to make room for winter. However we quickly changed our minds!
Enchanted Forest HS Tsunami or Sue managed to get the highest score in our herd. Sue will be sticking around another year!
This year Sue received a score of VG 87.9 as a 2 year old second freshener. With her being so young yet we are excited for what her future holds!

Last year we made the decision to buy a buckling from Dawson's ND. We did our research and fell in love with this bucks conformation, pedigree and personality. We bought Dawson's ND R2 Royale Order or "Charming". We could not have asked for a better buck! His kids look amazing and he did a great job at classification.

This year Charming scored a 87.3 as a yearling buck! We were stunned! We would never have guessed that such a young buck would have scored such a high score. Charming earned himself quite a few more ladies for this breeding season.

Breezy Farms D Lucky Star has been in our herd since the beginning. Not only is she a foundation doe in our herd, she is also Josh's showmanship doe. Despite turning 5 this year, Star is still very well put together.
Star received a score of VG 87.2 as a 5 year old fifth freshener. Although Star is starting to get old, we are hoping for plenty of more years with her.

Platinum Sky H Alizeh was classified this year after having five babies. Despite her still not being in full condition (because she had five babies) she still managed to get a great score.
Alizeh received an official score of VG 86.4 as a 4 year old fourth freshener.
