POST #2: Bear Prevention Works
Can electric fencing protect beehives from bears? Absolutely.
These photos tell two real stories from our last year beekeeping students.
Photo 1: One student's apiary in Bolton, now protected by an electric bear fence.
Photos 2 & 3: Last year, another student had a black bear walk into the yard toward her hive. Fortunately, her husband scared it away before the bear reached the colony. (caught on ring camera) boy was her husband brave!!
The very next step?
An electric bear fence was installed.
Once a bear discovers a beehive, there's a good chance it will return. That's why we encourage beekeepers in areas with bear activity to install fencing before a bear ever visits.
