Here with an update for y’all, and it’s not an easy one. After making fermented hot sauces since 2014 we have decided it’s time to wrap up this wild ride that is Poor Devil. You may have noticed our absence for a while now and our continual out of stock of hot sauces and we have thought a lot about it and come to this hard decision.
At the end of last year we lost our relationship with our copacker and have not been able to recover. We have loved all of the events, taco nights, merch drops, and meeting each and every one of you. We can’t thank you enough for supporting this dream of ours.
Having a small business is hard and continues to put up more challenges in this current climate when we are all trying to just do our best. For full transparency- Poor Devil has been supporting itself but we have not been able to make it profitable, atleast on our terms. We have championed doing right by the brand through our sourcing, our commitment to upcycling, and reducing our waste as a manufacturer. As well as our commitment to 1% For the Planet and the non profits we have supported over the years. This is what we have always prioritized in growing Poor Devil and what we see as the responsible commitment as a brand and business. We have been fighting hard for Poor Devil for a long time but we realize this is what we have to do. This business was our first baby and as we get ready to expand our family with our second kid arriving this May, it is time to make some decisions.
With all of that being said, this is not a goodbye forever, this is a see ya later. Maybe not in refrigerated fermented sauces, but we have some things cooking.
We are planning a moving sale with discounted merch and dry spices. We have A LOT of chili flakes and powders available. This will be in person only in Hudson. Keep an eye on stories for more details.
