We had a baby boom last night! 3 litters in the nest and doing great!

The first 2 does I’ve yet to introduce, but as you can see they have already been putting in the work giving me 5 kits each!

There’s a whole lot of color in these litters it looks like, but I’ll know more in a few days!

I’m so thrilled to finally have not 1 but 3 litters in the nest after 4 months with no babies!

This is probably one of the hardest posts I’ve made, but it’s time.

ASR Pippin was my very first clean lined holland I started my herd with 2 years ago. Since then he has produced so many excellent offspring and several keeper bucks, it’s time he helps someone else.

At the time I had no clue what a holland should look like but I saw pippin posted and fell in love with him! Overtime I learned a lot about type a the holland lop SOP and I’ll be honest, pippin had/has faults that I would pick apart on the regular. I still bred him to the few does I had and to say I was shocked by the outcome would be an understatement.
Pippin’s first litter was out of a creekside doe I bought from his breeder, Autumn, at the same time. That pairing gave me FFR’s Hope, a tort doe. Hope was my very first homegrown kit. She went to 4 different fairs with me my last year of 4-h and ended up with 1 BIS, 2 RIS, and a BOSB. To top it all of the one and only ARBA show she went to she ended up BOSB!
Pippin is behind 3/4 of the legs my herd has won, his direct offspring have earned over a dozen legs.
He himself was BOV at the MSU 4-h show and won RIS at the spring fling youth show last year.

He has an insane hindquarter and muscling that he stamps on all his kits. His biggest fault is a narrow chest, and a slightly slipped crown but I’ve been able to correct it in 1 generation.
I will be picky where he goes and would ideally like to see him help start a herd or help a program with his mass. He is my go to buck when I have stubborn does, he knows his job and does it well. I do believe he also doesn’t spray.

He is a special buck that needs a special home, he is an absolute sweetheart and loves chin scratches and running around the barn wreaking havoc.

I will be going to the Christmas show in Frankenmuth early December and may possibly be open to working with select transports. Hudsonville MI.

Chrissy showed me a handful of bucks at one of the Lowell shows for my opinion, they were all super nice! While I wasn’t planning on bringing anything home she was parting with the dam of one of those bucks and after seeing what she produced I knew she would fit into my program well!

She is a dilute carrier and will be bred to FFR’s Cole (black, dilute carrier) soon for some dilute babies!!

She’s just finishing up a hard molt but is still looking great!

Coldwater Flannels and Fur show today!!

Unfortunately I was not able to get off work for this one, but I’m so grateful for awesome friends that were more than willing to take a few of my rabbits along today!
A HUGE thank you to the VanderWall family for showing my rabbits in addition to their own in 3 different shows! I also want to give another big thanks to the amazing holland breeders I’m spoiled to show with! Sara and Maddison are just getting started in the world of hollands, and Maddison was showing her own rabbits in youth, so I’m eternally grateful for everyone jumping in to help make sure my rabbits got on the table for each class. Another thanks to David and Laurie (Firefly Farm Rabbity) for taking them under your wing and showing them the ropes today! I know I can always count on them!

It sounds like numbers were insane with over 100 hollands (?!), so I won’t know all the placings till the reports come back, but I’m happy with how my little crew did, lots of top half placements with a few 2nds and 3rds!

I hope to be able to make it out to Frankenmuth for the first time in December!

I had to work at 1 and was hoping I could just pop in and do show a since Lowell was so close, unfortunately hollands did not finish showing till 1, I wasn’t too late to work though! I was happy to see the liter mates shine today, I haven’t cared for the buck too much but he might need to stay a little longer. It was also cool for ch*****ne to get a shout out from Joe saying he wished he could use 2 does for variety.

Finally to wrap up the month my favorite show was this past weekend!

BSTRC Fall Double!

Show A was quite something and numbers were huge with 85(?) hollands entered. The SJB class had 21 in it and FF73 was 1st off the table 🙃.
His sister, Ch*****ne Supernova, did end up with a 2nd leg though!

It was a long day but the club did everything they could to keep it moving, there were over 3k entries!

I’m so please with how well my little crew has been doing lately, hopefully I’ll have some litters in the nest in the coming weeks as it’s been almost 4 months since anything has been born. Hopefully I’ll have some young juniors to take to the Christmas show in December!

I had a ton of fun catching up with everyone and getting to know some new people! The Lowell shows are my favorite as it’s nice and close and being in 2 barns this month has given everyone a lot more room!

Spent the night getting ready for Lowell! I’m going to go ahead and pre apologize to the judges for some of my tattoos! 🥲 Typically the numbing roller works amazing, I’m not sure if it’s just old or I didn’t get the timing right, but the rabbits were certainly not happy.

Either way 8 juniors are now tattooed (-ish) and ready to be shown!

I will say I’m super proud of myself for doing it on my own. Typically I pay someone to do my tattoos at the shows because my handwriting is awful and normally my tattoos are even worse. But after staying home all summer I had a ton of rabbits to get done and didn’t want the stress of doing it day of!

If anyone is looking for a good tattoo pen I’ve been using a Poseidon from Amazon. It takes some getting used to with the needle lengths but it has been amazing! It comes with so many extras the price cannot be beat!

I have yet to post about the rabbits at the Hudsonville Community Fair this year, but I did enter some chickens in open class!

Each year I enter 15-30 chickens to help fill the barn and give people the opportunity to see more unique breeds. Since I no longer breed silkies and satins I just brought some birds out of my layer flock. It’s always so fun to go into the barn after the show and see how my birds did! I wasn’t too optimistic seeing as I’ve been dealing with several different predators which have taken some of my nicer birds, but I still managed to bring home a few rosettes!
