For the last few years I've been dreaming of putting in a rose garden. Well we finally did it! We finished off putting in the last section of fence by the road, so now we have an enclosed garden and hangout area down by the pond. Needless to say, the goats weren't impressed by their lack of access to the new rose bushes, and protested the inaccessibility of what they claim would make an excellent snack 😆

Tomorrow is the first day of double markets! We'll have baked goods and eggs at both the Muskegon Farmers Market as well as the new "Mitten Market" at Trail Point Brewing in Allendale.
Matthew wisely suggested I do a setup test run for the new market, and I have to say I think it looks pretty good!

Thank you to all of the young adults and young families from Our Lady of the Lake who came out to visit our farm! It was wonderful to see familiar faces and meet new people. Hopefully we will see you again!
This was the first group tour of our farm that we've done, and we had a lot of fun! The animals were also huge fans, I think they got more pets in the first five minutes then they normally do in an entire week. 😉

Fun fact Friday!
All livestock (think things like goats, sheep, and cattle) are required by law to have some form of permanent ID before leaving their farm of origin. For goats, this means tattoos if they are registered in a breed association, and ear tags if they are not. Since we sell both registered and unregistered goats, I have gotten a lot of experience the last few years in doing both! Tagging is fast and simple, but tags are more likely to get caught in fencing and be pulled out later. Tattooing is a little more work and is far messier (you can just see all the extra green dye on Bellaire in this picture, but on a white goat it is far more noticeable) but it also cannot ever be removed and won't get caught on things. This week we finished all of the tagging and tattooing of the kids, and I think everyone is looking quite handsome with their permanent IDs now. ☺️

There's never a dull day on a farm, even a small farm!
This morning started with a trip to the emergency vet for miss Dolly. 🤦‍♀️ I was in the middle of doing morning chores when I noticed that Dolly's face looked swollen to me. Our vet suggested Benadryl as a first step, but when I went to give it to her I noticed that her tongue was also swelling. I rushed her to the emergency vet, and by the time I got there the benadryl I had managed to give her had started to bring some of the swelling down. The emergency vet did a fantastic job, and after a few hours and some injectable steroids and benadryl, miss Dolly got to come back home and have a nice easy day inside. The vet's best guess is that a bee or spider got her while she was outside. She's on benadryl for the next few days to keep the swelling down, but so far she's looking really good. And boy were the goats glad when I finally got back home to finish milking them!
The rest of the day was also busy, but in a good way! Our new honeybees are now in their hives, two more baby goats went to their new homes, and Matthew got all the baking done for the market tomorrow.
Definitely never dull around here! 😅

Somebody come take these cuties to be a herd sire before I have to wether them! Meet "Grand Blanc" (buckskin with extensive white and potential for hidden moonspots, blue eyes) and "Bad Axe" (black with white and moonspots, blue eyes) out of Serenity Farm LWA Thornapple x Hundeholz Blue Tefnut 5*M! Both would make fabulous herd sires, and can be ADGA registered. They come from our best personality does and our strongest milking lines and have great potential for passing along strong genetics. Old enough to go the beginning of May, and from a clean tested herd. Will be banded next Friday if nobody has claimed them!
Check out their lines and pedigrees, or fill out an interest form by visiting our website, littlewayacres.com.
