Pure raw honey made by bees raised right here in north central Alabama, Jefferson County, Hueytown, Like most things in my life, I stumbled into bee keeping.
Found my first hive in a vacant lot across the street from our office and I carried them home. They didn't stick around, but I had already been bit by the bug. I then purchased a couple of established hives and a new hobby/business was born. Fascinating creatures!

Call me, Alabama! 205-410-7975 (if you see a swarm)
Spring has sprung! Bees are at the top of the busy list as soon as spring's flowers begin their season. Honeybees are also famous for another spring activity, "swarming". By spring, the nest is simply too congested so the old queen leaves the hive, accompanied by roughly half of her colony. (Don't worry, a new queen is left behind for the remaining population to nurture)
This flying swarm temporarily clusters on sturdy structure like a bench, tree branch, or the eve of a building, while scout bees search for an acceptable, permanent home. Most hanging swarms are about the size of a basketball. Swarms are relatively gentle, and the risk of stings is low - but must still be treated with caution. A swarm usually relocates to a new nest within 24 hours.
If you see a swarm of bees, call a local beekeeper! Several Alabama beekeepers are ready to give these pollinators a happy, new home.

Why Does Honey Crystallize?
Why Does Honey Crystallize?
There’s just something about crystallized honey that tends to make people nervous. It’s the polar opposite of the runny, translucent honey found in a plastic bear on grocery store shelves. Instead, it’s solidified enough that you need to scrape it out of the jar with a heavy spoon; its texture...

Anytime I try to take pictures of the apiary, the background is rather undesirable, so I am trying to rectify that.
Doesn't look like my azaleas made it through the drought, so I will be replanting those this fall. I moved those trees here from another area of the yard. Fingers crossed that they made it through.
The post was a beside the road freebie that Mr. Menace brought home for me. I intend to make an apiary sign to hang from it.
