Scott Kroese, City of Hull Parks & Recreation Director and Property Enforcement Officer and a member of the Hull Kiwanis Club, spoke at the club's Thursday, October 8, 2026, meeting about his position with the city. His responsibilities include the Community Building, West Side Park - Kids' Kingdom, Hubbling Park and Eastside Park. He also is in charge of the city's youth and adult activities and recreation programs,

As Property Enforcement Office he must check any problem properties in town for things such as long grass or weeds, junked cars or other issues that may result in "red tags" being issued.

🎄 WHO WANTS TO TRY SOMETHING NEW THIS HOLIDAY SEASON?!

We’re excited to once again partner with the Hull Kiwanis for their Annual Fundraiser!

We’ll have the usual favorites available to order:
* Poinsettias
*Christmas Cactus
*Norfolk Pine Plants

AND... we’re planning to add something NEW this year — WAXED AMARYLLIS BULBS! ❤️

I’ve always thought these were SO neat and beautiful, but I’ve never taken the time to give them a try. This year is the year!
Here’s the catch: I need to PREBOOK the amaryllis bulbs within the next week, so I’d love to get an idea of how many of you would be interested.

If you’d like to reserve one, send me a message or give me a call! We’re estimating they will be around $28–$30 each.

Waxed amaryllis bulbs are especially fun because they’re easy to enjoy and don’t take up much space. For these reasons, they would make wonderful gifts for someone in a nursing home or assisted living! I’ll share more about the bulbs and their care soon.

We hope to have the official Kiwanis order forms, pricing and all the details ready to go by this weekend.

And a quick note about the poinsettias: we know we had some quality issues with a few of them last year. We’ve been told we have beautiful plants coming this year, and we’re looking forward to a much better crop!

❤️ Let’s make this another wonderful community effort for the Hull Kiwanis! A portion of the profits from plant sales will benefit the cause the Kiwanis will be supporting this year.

All of the plants will be available for pickup at the same time.

Andrew Hoekstra, Branch Manager/AVP of American State Bank in Hull offered tips on how to avoid being the victim of financial fraud. He made his presentation at the Hull Kiwanis Club meeting Thursday noon, September 10, 2026, at The Pizza Ranch in Hull. He encouraged individuals to slow down when fraudsters are demanding urgent action by you to give anyone personal information about yourself or your financial accounts.

Randy Ten Pas of the Hull Christian School updated the Hull Kiwanis Club on the many changes happening this year at Hull Christian School during the club's Thursday August 27, 2026 meeting at the Hull Pizza Ranch.

The most obvious change is the ongoing facility upgrade construction project that will add 5 new classrooms, new rooms for music and music practice, a science lab, a collaboration commons, and repurpose several existing spaces. The project should be ready for the start of the 2027-2028 school year.

Another big change for the school is the leadership structure. Mr. Ten Pas has served as Principal for many years. This year he is moving up to a newly created position of Head of School. He will be concentrating on institution leadership, school board relations, development and advancement, and operational oversight.

Mr. Anthony Minderhoud has been hired as the new principal who will concentrate on the day-to-day school operations including academic oversight, faculty and staff development, program and resource supervision and organizational engagement.

Carolyn and Russ Goold represented the Hull Kiwanis Club as delegates at the Nebraska-Iowa District Convention August 7 and 8 at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs. During the convention they participated in a service project to make headboards for beds for youth such as the bunk bed in the photo. The service project was for the Omaha/Council Bluffs chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization that builds and delivers beds to children who otherwise would not have a bed. There are over 400 Sleep in Heavenly Peace Chapters nationally including 19 in Iowa and 2 in Nebraska. Kiwanis members throughout the Nebraska-Iowa District raised $15, 704 for Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Northwest Iowa Community College President Dr. John Hartog gave the Hull Kiwanis Club members an update on NCC during the club's meeting Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Hull Pizza Ranch.

NCC has two regional centers with the main campus in Sheldon plus the Sioux Center Regional Center. The community college will soon be adding regional centers in Marcus and Rock Rapids. These regional centers serve students and residents of the 19 area schools including Boyden-Hull, Western Christian and Trinity Christian.

NCC offers career pathways for students in healthcare, automotive, education, information technology, diesel technology, engineering design and welding. It offers traditional one and two-year programs for traditional students, college credit classes for students still in high school and many training opportunities in a variety of fields for those trying to add to or upgrade their skills.

Julie Bosma showed some recently discovered Hull history to the Hull Kiwanis Club Thursday, July 9. This photo of the D. W. Warren's Photography Gallery was made from a glass negative found in the attic of what will be the Old Parlor Meat Company which is renovating a building on Hull's Main Street for its new location. Many glass negatives were found in the attic. Some have been printed and are on display at the Hull Historical Society Museum.

Last Thursday, the Hull Kiwanis Club had the pleasure of hearing from Sarah Tracy with the Iowa DOT, who shared insights on the future US 75 & Hwy 18 North and South Junction projects 🚧

It was an informative and engaging presentation about what’s ahead for our area and how these improvements will impact our community!
