Jellybean's first milking as a second freshener went off without a hitch! 🙌🏻 No kicking, no drama, no holding back milk. Just easy chill vibes, some stand treats, and a pail of milk. ❤️ LOVE this girl and her large teats, large orfices, and easy disposition.

Now - we do calf share, which means she's with her baby all day and we are just taking any excess she needs removed to stay comfortable. ❤️ Today that as a gallon of milk that the dogs were very grateful for. The milk still has colostrum in it so we aren't drinking it yet, which is why we are hand milking into a pail with any filters or covers. ❤️ The dogs don't care if a little hair or dirt gets into their milk. Lol

She's here!!

Born day 276, 20lbs, 20", and full of life. 😍 Jellybean had another textbook delivery and in no time had her calf cleaned and nursing and afterbirth delivered. ❤️ which meant we had everyone all tucked in, calcium bolus given, umbilical cord dipped, alfalfa and some grain fed, and everyone in bed before 11pm 🙌🏻 Always grateful for those smooth deliveries, but especially with me being due in 2 weeks myself. This is our last calf till August and a great way to end the first round of calving. ❤️

Magni and Jellybean produced the most perfect bull calf last year (our boy Candyman) I just knew we had to repeat that breeding. ❤️ This little heifer did not disappoint and I know her family is gonna LOVE her!

This is why we halter train ALL our heifers. Because when it's 62⁰, rainy, and you've got a cow that needs milking - you don't need no rodeo. You want to be able to walk right up to your girl, slip a halter on, and get her the 1/4mile back up the hill to the milking barn with zero drama - and you want your 8yr old to be able to safely do that too.

That doesn't happen overnight, it's not pure luck to get a cow that lets you lead and halter them. It is consistent handling, intentional actions, and proper training. ❤️ Early introduction and foundation makes all the difference.

Well what a wild 48hrs! We have had a lot of new faces join our page over the last two days and I think ya'll need a proper Howdy/Aloha/Hello.

I am Brigette - the face behind all the cute baby cows, full milk pails, and prancing ponies that you see on our page. Along with my sweet husband and 3 (almost 4) kids we alone run our family ranch here at Half'n'Half Cattle Co.

We started out like many of you probably did - with a dream and an acre of land just outside town. We wanted more space for our kids to roam, wanted to get back to the basics of life, and I wanted to put my years of passion/knowledge on genetics and breeding to good use. What started as 5 bottle baby goats quickly escalated to a herd of 20 gorgeous miniature jerseys, a beautiful array of bulls, a bull semen business - that offers straws all across the nation, Canada, and New Zealand, a herd of beautiful Mini Gypsy ponies, and 100 acres way out in the middle of nowhere MO.

I LOVE these miniature cows and what they stand for. I love helping families find their milk cow and new best friend, offering help and training/advice where I can. I LOVE genetics and the freedom that we all have to choose what we want to focus on in our individual programs, and I love raising and growing high quality miniature bulls that farms can use to achieve their goals.

I have been raising dairy animals for almost 10yrs and I have raised and milked cows across 3 very different climates (one being the beautiful island of Hawaii). I'm not for the drama and you'll get a pretty real view (the good, beautiful, and ugly) of life around here if you stay. I'm happy to have you all here and if you want to take a gander over to our website you'll see our cows, our bulls, and more on our family there too!

Learning to drink water can be a little tricky the first couple times. 🤣❤️ Thankfully momma is here to help teach Honey how to properly get a drink of water.

Tell me you live on a farm without telling me. 🤣🤣

Around here we call alfalfa dust "barn glitter", and I once opened my wallet (it's attached to my phone so always in my pocket for reference) at a doctor's office and out came a heap of barn glitter all over the counter. 🤣🫣 It may or may not have looked like another dried green substance people carry around on purpose. Lol

We have a new arrival! 😍

Yesterday, exactly on her due date and much to my surprise, Cinder had her calf!

Despite 16 calves being born here so far - this was the first unassisted delivery we all got to witness. Usually we miss them or they need help. But Cinder was kind and waited to have her baby at 9:30am, and needed no help. ❤️

This is a Romeo heifer - and while she managed to get minimal paint markings (a few cutie marks on her thighs and on her tail) and is a little leggy - she already has large teats and the most dainty build! We are excited to watch her grow and fill out. ❤️ So without further ado - meet our newest heifer:

In honor of Cinder's due date coming up in two days I thought you'd all enjoy some scientific comparison and data analysis! 😉

Today Cinder is day 276 - udder is second picture. It is filling, but it's a far cry from the "pop" I expect to see.

Last year cinder calved at day 275 with a bull calf and her udder was FULL. So I tracked what her udder looked like 2 days before and then a week before calving. You can see by comparison that her udder is currently similarly filled to the picture from 7 days before she calved.

Based on this, I'm going to guess that she calves Sunday at day 281.

What's your guess?! Will she surprise us and fill up faster this time? Or perhaps calve less full this time?
