Operating as usual
Set the auger up this afternoon at home. Ready to unload corn now.
10 hr service this morning after finishing up soybeans last night. Onto corn today. Parked the combine in front of the shop for tomorrow morning’s service.
Tried some corn yesterday, little too wet yet so doing going on soybeans this afternoon and into the evening. Haven’t cut this good in several years.
Few minutes late. Would have looked a lot better had the picture been taken sooner.
Just picked up the combine from the shop this morning. Mostly ready to go. Little work to do on it but shouldn’t take long.
Baling the last piece of alfalfa for the year. Also did a rack of small square bales.
Caught a snake baling today. Pulled it out and promptly ran away. Lol. Last of the grass hay baled in the pasture.
Mowing some grass along the creek. Used the old mower to find the tree limbs from last time it flooded out. We found them!
2nd cutting alfalfa. More big squares picked up last night.
Cutting more grass in the pasture. Found some wild flowers by the creek. Pics of the alfalfa that was also cut today.
Moving equipment around in west shed and putting the planter in its spot till next spring.
Made 2 quick passes along the trees yesterday while the hay was dry just incase the hay was damp this morning so the rest could be raked up without any issues.
Cutting grass on the next section of pasture. This is about as hilly as it gets around here.
All of the big squares unloaded. Took up a big spot on south side of the hoop shed.
From last night picking up 3x4 big square bales.
Baling grass in the pasture. The 2nd section cut made about 230 bales. Put on racks and sold from the field is always nice way to move bales out quickly.
Had my helpers tonight checking out the field south of the shop. Some were in better moods than the others.
954 bales done tonight from some of the 1st cutting alfalfa.
Missed draining some water last fall and it broke the cross fitting in the middle. Not hard to fix but time consuming.
Friday and Saturday’s rocks that we could pick up by hand. Big one I had to get the Tele out for.
Finishing up west farm tonight. Dry and dusty on top but plenty of moisture below.
Last bin of corn for the year.
Busy day today. Found some off types kernels emptying west bin. West bin emptied out and one more bin to go for the year. Loaded up some old plows for neighbor. Moved part of old oak tree by the windmill. It’s about all the tele-handler could lift.
The RV antifreeze wasn’t froze solid but it wasn’t liquid either. Only down to -5 other night.
Last small bin cleaned out and onto one of the 36’ bins. About 40 loads left to go for the year.
Loading out of the old dryer. Needed a little bit work to get the hubs to work to run the sweeps augers.
Moving corn earlier in the week. Loading up some hay today for Saturday delivery.
Loading out corn this morning. One of only a few loads unfortunately.
Found some metal from neighbors shed out in our field. It went about 1.5 miles.
Picking up the last bales in west shed.
Loaded up this hay customer today. 500+ bales. Two of us on the trailer and one in the telehandler, wasn’t too bad of a job.
Ready to move snow!
The trusty IH truck truck started right up like it always does doing some equipment rearranging today. 345 V8 with a 5+2 transmission!
Loading out hay for delivery later today and tomorrow.
That’s not supposed to be that way. It had been broken for awhile. Did what we could to get it back in place to weld it.
Finished up with corn and harvest 2021 today. Took longer than expected based on the start of harvest but still plenty of time for fall fertilizer application.
Lots of chopper knives missing. Looked at rotor, feeder house chain and corn head and nothing missing so not sure what broke them off.
Taken earlier in the week.
Had a little wiring repair to do this morning. Nothing major, just the whisker switch for counting acres on the yield monitor.
Another repair project. That’s not supposed to be broken. It’s the support shaft for the reel on the bean head.
Last nights repair we started in the dark and finished this morning in the mist. The one bearing had fallen apart and the other was close. These were on the feed rollers on the dryer, they control how fast corn moves through the machine.
Pictures from yesterday morning with the fog and this afternoon with the sun setting.
Finished the small field by the creek and onto the long rows, almost 1 mile, in the next field.
Pictures form today and last few days. Onto our 2nd field of corn this morning.
The combine is out there somewhere…there it is!
Tried some corn today. Not a good representation of the field since this area gets hammered by wildlife but had moisture from 16-24 and yield of 140-240.
Bender and Parker are paired up for harvest!
Making sure everything runs today. Plan to start next week.
Checking tires today on one of the gravity wagons and noticed this one may need to be replaced.
Grain cart is ready to go. Will need a better tractor on the front, there could be a worse grain cart tractor but not sure what that would be.
