Welcome to Sanstar Harlequins. This venture started in 2004 when a friend asked me if I had seen these cool striped rabbits...I hadn't until she brought me a picture and I started researching the breed. It didn't take long to decide this is what I wanted to start my new rabbitry. I started my search and found it most difficult to find breeders in TX. I called a ARBA Judge and asked if he knew of any breeders...I got the name of two breeders in TX and managed to buy my foundation stock. I was able to get a couple of nice marked does that were bred but the bucks I had to choose from were in the cull pen. So I purchased the largest b***d nicest type buck in the pen. He was so far from showable it was not funny. Bald face, same color ears almost dutch marked on his body but he was a great cross on the does i had and they produced Roo and Jester which were our first show rabbits. We did awesome on the show table the first few years. I started replacing my non showable brood stock with the marked show rabbits...mistake...the show patterns were better from the non show marked rabbits...I have sold out a couple of times but i keep coming back. The harlequin breed is a 7 to 9 lb rabbit that is very gentle and inquisitive. They make great pets. I have litters from 6 to 13 and the does are excellent moms. I have fostered several breeds bunnies to my does...in fact when we breed for show pens we would also breed the harlies for foster moms. I find this breed fun to raise. No two bunnies are exactly the same, so when I dig through the nestbox for the first time it's like Christmas morning under the Tree. They are quite challenging because there is no rhyme or reason in producing the perfect markings...but when I do manage to have one mark up you cannot imagine the excitement I feel.
