So Question

I know I am not the only one that is struggling with dirty eggs with all of this rain we have had. These are Spitzhauban eggs that are Snow White and really look horrible when they are dirty like these. So the question is do you send these eggs out as hatching eggs? Incubate them yourself? Or discard them because of the mud? Let me hear your thoughts.

We have Welsummer, Black Copper Marans, Silver Spangled Spitzhaubans, English Jubilee Orpington, English Chocolate Silverlaced Orpington, Silverudds, Ermine Ameraucana, and Silverudd Crosses. Many of y’all have asked what we think of this feed and where we get it. We really like this feed because we feed it to all of our birds from newly hatched chicks to our breeding hens and roosters. It is an all flock feed in a crumble at 22% protein. It allows us to only have to handle one feed instead of buying different feeds for each growth stage of chickens. It simplifies it for us. We live in the Lufkin Texas area and buy this feed from Agri Services here. I guarantee you can get with Mrs Sandy there and she will fix you up.

With all of this rain we have had my coops look more like duck ponds than chicken coops and smell that way as well. This barn lime and pine pellets work really well for us. We liberally lay lime down and then spread pine pellets. They do smell fresh when we are done.

So you were wondering why those chicks and eggs were so high in your opinion. Well come along with me to the feed store. This will last 15-16 days. 30 bags of crumble and 8 bags of whole grain scratch. It finally quit raining for a bit so I am fixing to head back to get a couple pallets of pine pellets and probably 15 sacks of barn lime.
