❤️🐂 Dixie’s Story Continues...Part 4 — And Then There Was Patrick ❤️

Dixie quickly settled into her new home at Mulberry Lane Farm, and we fell in love with her sweet disposition. Olivia continued visiting, bringing treats and giving her plenty of love. Before long, Dixie would hear our voices and come to greet us too. ❤️

Then came something really special...

Dixie was expecting the first calf born at Mulberry Hill—as my great-grandfather called our farm—since my father was a child in the 1940s.

So about nine months later, baby watch began! 🐂👀

Olivia, now studying pre-vet in college, would come home on weekends to check on Dixie. It was so cool to watch them together. At first, we had weeks to go. Then suddenly...it was almost time! 😂

One Saturday afternoon, Dixie seemed uncomfortable. I kept a close eye on her. I had gone back into the house....I saw a car pull in, and then someone go barreling down the hill. So I ran out of the house and down the hill.

And there stood Dixie (in the dirt) with a precious Black Baldy bull calf (boy) in front of her and Olivia right there with them. Olivia had arrived almost immediately after he was born! What were the chances? ❤️ It was almost as if Dixie knew she needed her girl there. (Normally NO momma cow allows anyone to be near her new calf) Dixie trusted Olivia.

Dixie was already cleaning and nudging her new baby to his feet. Olivia put on her vet hat and made sure they were both doing well. Within a little bit the calf was up, moving around, and nursing. ❤️

He was the first calf born at Mulberry Hill in generations AND the very first calf born on Mulberry Lane Farm 🚜

And because he was born in March, there was only one fitting name...Patrick. ❤️🐂 Patrick is so much fun to watch with the other animals. His disposition is just like his momma's—calm and cool, and he loves attention!

Today, Olivia still visits whenever she's home from college. ❤️🐂 AND.....Dixie is due to have another calf in February or March! ❤️🐂

Someday, we hope she gives us a heifer calf—a little girl like her momma—to stay at Mulberry Lane Farm and carry on Dixie’s story. ❤️🐂

❤️🐂 Dixie’s Story Continues...Part 3 ❤️ So, Olivia and Dixie were back home on their farm.

Olivia had aged out of 4-H, and high school was coming to an end. It was time to start making plans for the future.

Olivia has always loved animals. All animals. It didn't matter what kind. She always wanted to become a veterinarian.

During her 4-H years, she raised and showed every species in the fair book! She cared deeply for her animals, helped with births, taught other 4-Hers, and spent countless hours caring for and working with them. And yes...many of them made their way into the living room when they needed a little extra care. 😂❤️

She was also part of the C.A.S.E. program in high school, a program that gives students hands-on experience and exposure to careers in agriculture, science, and related fields.

And then it was time to make that dream a reality. Olivia decided on college and a pre-vet program, putting her one step closer to becoming the veterinarian she had always wanted to be. ❤️

So now, what would she do with Dixie?

We told Olivia that we might be interested in bringing Dixie to Mulberry Lane Farm.

After some thought, she said yes. But there was one stipulation...Dixie had to stay with us, and Olivia had to be able to come see her anytime she wanted...day or night.

Of course, we agreed. ❤️

We decided Olivia would take Dixie to be bred, and we would pick her up from there.

Before Olivia left for college, she made sure she came by the farm to bring Dixie some treats and get some Dixie cuddles. ❤️🐂

Then Olivia left for college.

When it was finally time to bring Dixie to Mulberry Lane, we called Olivia to see when she would be home and asked if she wanted to be there.

Of course she did.

And just like old times, Olivia hopped right up on Dixie's back, and together they walked right into the trailer. ❤️🐂

Dixie arrived at Mulberry Lane with no problems at all. The other animals curiously greeted her, she settled right in and made herself at home.

Now to wait 9 months for a calf.....

Follow along for PART 4..... ❤️🐂❤️
