The grass is green…. and the Braford babies are off to a good start at Dixon Ranches.
The herd bull in the first picture is a 3/4 Hereford herd sire that I raised and appropriately named “Teddy,” short for J7 Teddy Bear 2041. His sweet, gentle dipsosition matches his name.
Teddy is a result of a 15+ year quest to create the ideal 3/8-5/8 Braford animal. We feel Teddy ia doing just that.
Teddy’s Hereford sire was a top-end W4 Ranch Hereford bull “Ribsy” that we lost in a tragic accident, but not before leaving hia mark.
Teddy’s dam, my “041” F1 cow, was the result of a meticulously planned embryo transfer mating.
041’s sire is HH Advance 8141U, a “top-3”sale topping Holden Hereford bull that we were thrilled to acquire from the Holden sale back in 2009, with the help and guidance of Jack Holden. 8141’s sire was 03571, who has left his mark on the Hereford breed in many top herds, such as Indian Mound Ranch- through the influence of another son, 8050U, who produced Indian Mound’s 1014 cow, who has had a tremndous impact in their program. Additionally 8141’s maternal granddam was the immortal Holden 1028L cow, who remains the ideal Hereford cow in my mind to this very day, after seeing her in production in Montana at 8 years of age and still raising an awesome calf.
On the Brahman side of 041’s pedigree, her dam was a phenomenal Diamond A/Barzee donor cow, 487/2, that i was fortunate to purchase in the Diamond A Ranch dispersal sale many years ago. 487/2 was sired by Diamond A 183/6- who served as an iconic producer of easy fleshing, deep bodied, functional, sound-uddered females for ranches all over the world- but perhaps most noteably as a Brahman seedstock sire for the famed John Malazzo Farms F1 Braford breeding program.
You can count on Teddy to produce thick muscled, easy fleshing calves that are born small to moderate sized at birth and grow explosively!
I have many registered Braford heifers available out of Teddy that are available currently- and SEMEN will he available on Teddy later this year- conventional and sexed female. Breed him to those high quality, F1 Braford females with confidence to produce new, first generation registered 3/8-5/8 Braford cattle. Another plus- he is homozygous for a white face!
