Sam Houston State University Rodeo Team

Sam Houston State University Rodeo Team Huntsville, the home of General Sam Houston, is located 60 miles north of Houston on Interstate-45 in the piney woods of South East Texas.

Huntsville has a population of about 30,000 and is in the center of the Southern Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (N.I.R.A.) which means the rodeo team has less travel than any other school in the N.I.R.A. Huntsville is also a very good town to rodeo out of; regardless of the type of rodeoing you want to do. We are fortunate to have both indoor and outdoor practice arenas a

nd maintain practice stock almost year-round for timed events. The SHSU Rodeo Club is one of the oldest clubs on campus (active since 1950) and has produced more national champion rodeo teams than any other college or university in the nation! If you like the sport of rodeo and want to get a good education, Sam Houston is the college to attend.

CNFR Round 2 is in the books, and the Bearkats had another strong showing on the national stage!

Highlights included a Round 2 win in Team Roping by Will Smith, three steer wrestlers placing in the round, and a 6th-place finish in Barrel Racing by Alissa L. Flores.

The College National Finals Rodeo kicks off Monday morning, and we are so ready! 💥💥

Meet your Sam Houston Rodeo National Team! We are incredibly proud of each and every one of these student-athletes and all the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice it took to get here.

We would like to address a recent post that has been circulating regarding a coaching change within our program.

While we are excited to see Cody DeMoss take on the opportunity to help start and lead the rodeo program at Northwestern State University in Louisiana, there has been some misinformation regarding his involvement with Sam Houston State.

Bubba Miller remains the Head Coach of the Sam Houston State Rodeo Team.

A recent post incorrectly stated that Coach DeMoss had been hired as the new coach at SHSU. We appreciate the excitement surrounding college rodeo and the respect many have for Cody, but we wanted to clarify that no coaching change has occurred within our program.

We wish Cody nothing but success as he builds the Northwestern State Rodeo Team and look forward to watching the program grow under his leadership. At the same time, we are proud to continue moving forward under Coach Bubba Miller and are excited about the future of Bearkat Rodeo.

Thank you for your continued support of the Sam Houston State Rodeo Team.
