Well, I’ll tell ya… this is the kind of thing that gets a farmer excited. 😂🚜

The chicken pasture is really starting to fill in, and it sure is nice to see all that green!

I got to spend a little time on the John Deere today mowing it down and getting things cleaned up. I’ll admit it — I enjoy running this tractor a little too much. 😎

But the best part is seeing the pasture come back and knowing the chickens are going to have plenty of good forage out there.

A good day on the farm:
Green grass ✅
Happy chickens 🐔
A John Deere to drive 🚜
And a farmer who doesn’t need much excuse to get on the tractor! 😂

We’ve still got plenty of work to do, but it’s fun to stop for a minute and appreciate how far things are coming.

I’d say the pasture is looking pretty darn good! 🌱

🌻 Have you ever noticed sunflowers looking away from the sun?

Farmer Jon is out in our flower and herb garden sharing some of the gorgeous sunflowers we have growing right now—and something pretty cool about the way they follow the sun.

When sunflowers are young, they actually track the sun throughout the day. They start facing east toward the sunrise, follow the sun west, and then turn back toward the east overnight. This is called heliotropism. ☀️

But once the flowers mature and open up, something changes. They mostly stop following the sun and settle facing east toward the morning sun. That’s why later in the day you might walk by and wonder why all your sunflowers seem to be looking the wrong direction! 😂

There’s a reason for it, too. Facing east helps the flowers warm up earlier in the morning, which can make them more attractive to bees and other pollinators. 🐝

Just another one of those little things happening in nature that you might never notice until you stop and take a closer look.

And these sunflowers sure are making our flower and herb garden beautiful right now! 🌻🌻🌻

One of the things we get pretty excited about At The Farm is making our own compost! 🌱It might just look like a pile of really good dirt 😂 but there is actually A LOT going on in there.

Our compost is full of bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms that help break down organic matter and cycle nutrients back into the soil.

One of the biggest things we have learned over the years is that if we take care of the soil, the soil will take care of the plants.And that’s really what we are trying to do.

Adding compost helps build organic matter, improve the structure of our soil, hold more moisture and create a better environment for all of the life underneath our feet. Here in Southern Utah where it gets HOT and DRY, having soil that can absorb and hold onto more water is a pretty big deal!

But probably my favorite part is how all of this eventually connects back to the FOOD we grow. 🥕🥬🍅

Plants aren’t growing in a bag of fertilizer. Their roots are growing in an entire living ecosystem.

When we have healthy soil with good structure, organic matter and active biology, roots can grow deeper and have better access to water and nutrients. All of those microorganisms also help break down organic material and cycle nutrients into forms that plants can use. That helps us grow strong, healthy plants that are better able to handle the stresses we throw at them here — heat, wind, dry conditions, pests and everything else that comes with farming in the desert.

And ultimately, healthy soil is the foundation for growing healthy food.

That’s why we spend so much time working on what’s BELOW the ground even though most people only ever see what we’re growing ABOVE it.

And then eventually all of this beautiful compost gets spread back onto our fields where it becomes part of growing the next crop.

Plants grow ➡️ organic material gets composted ➡️ compost goes back into the soil ➡️ soil feeds another generation of plants ➡️ those plants become food for our community.

🌵 We’ve got some fun new things hitting the Farm Store!

We’re excited to have Prickly Adventure Snacks in the store! These guys are made right here locally and are all about having a healthier snack that’s easy to grab and take with you. Whether you’re heading out hiking, on a road trip, working all day, or just need something quick to throw in the truck, these are a great option.

And of course, you need something good to wash it down with! 😋

We’ll also have Just Ingredients Energy drinks along with Frank’s Lemonade stocked in the cooler.

We really enjoy finding products like these to bring into the Farm Store—especially when we can support other local businesses and give you guys some different, better options at the same time.

🐥 The cutest new crew just arrived at Living Earth Farms! 🐥

Farmer Jon is showing off our newest batch of baby chicks—and as adorable as these little fluff balls are, they’re also an important part of what we’re trying to build here at the farm. 🌱🐓

These are our next group of pasture-raised meat chickens, and in the coming months they’ll be raised right here on the farm before becoming available in our Farm Store.

Chicken is one of the most in-demand proteins we sell, and producing more of it locally matters. When food is raised close to home, you get to know where it came from, how it was raised, and the people who raised it. It also keeps more of our food dollars in our community and helps create a stronger, more resilient local food system.

For us, pasture-raised chicken is about more than just putting meat in the freezer. These birds become part of the farm—moving across our pasture, fertilizing the soil, eating bugs and plants, and helping us build healthier ground for the next season. 🌾

So yes…right now they’re tiny, fluffy, ridiculously cute little peepers. 😂🐥 But they’re also the beginning of another batch of locally raised food for local families.

Thank you for continuing to support small farms and choosing to know where your food comes from. ❤️

👀 Forget Where’s Waldo… around here it’s “Where’s the Egg?” 🥚🧅😂

Apparently our chickens looked at their nice, comfortable nesting boxes and thought, “Nah… those onions look better.”

Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned about chickens, it’s this: the more inconvenient the place is for us, the more appealing it is to them. 🐔😂

And we have to give them credit—the camouflage is impressive. Those eggs blend right in with the onions!

Today was one of those days that reminds us why we do what we do. 🌱❤️

We had an incredible turnout at the farmers market today! At one point, our line was 10–15 people deep, and seeing so many of you show up to support our farm and other local producers meant more to us than we can say.

When you shop at a farmers market, you’re doing so much more than buying vegetables, eggs, meat, or other local goods. You’re investing directly in your community.

Every purchase helps small farms like Living Earth Farms keep planting, growing, raising animals, improving our farm, and producing food right here close to home. It keeps more of your food dollars in the local community, supports local families and businesses, and helps build a stronger local food system.

And that matters.

The more food we can grow, raise, produce, and purchase locally, the more resilient our community becomes. Farmers markets also give you something that’s increasingly rare—you get to know the people who grow your food, ask questions about how it was produced, and know exactly where it came from.

We are incredibly grateful for everyone who waited in line, stopped by our booth, told a friend about us, or chose to spend their hard-earned money with a local farmer today.
