Would you like to have this doe??

I would take a whole barn full!!!

Which is why I kept one of her sons this year.

And why I am offering you the other son...

This is Sinai Thunder Everlasting Joy (aka Everly) 8*D 8*M AR, SG pending, GEEE90, 87.5Vg, 5.9 # test day high, 1070 # for 305.

Her son, Cottonwood Hollow Strider, who is currently being offered at a reduced salary (you know I don't do discounts, but Strider is a special case as explained in his ad on my website), is available and eager to find his place in a herd doing great things and making daughters that look like THIS!

Strider's sire's dam is pictured in the comments, and she is honestly about the milkiest Nigerian that ever lived. Holding 12 ADGA NATIONAL TOP 10 MILK AWARDS...yep, I said TWELVE of them! All over a six-year spread, which is an incredibly long time (most does burn out within a few years of peaking like this). Here's just a sampling of those records:

⭐️4th lactation 1750 # and 102 # butterfat.
⭐️5th lactation 1670 # and 109 # butterfat.
⭐️6th lactation 1610 # and 101 # butterfat.
⭐️And even her 7th lactation with 1550 #...very impressive for a doe that age.

Did I mention that Everly's full sister is also a National Top 10 milker and butterfat record setter??

SG Sinai Thunder O Maple Joy VEEE91, 90.3Ex, 2018-2022 ADGA Elite doe. 1510 # milker for her 305 as 3F and 120 # butterfat (record holder at the time!).

We firmly believe the sire's dam is the biggest influence on his daughters, which is why I eagerly kept a buck from Everly this year. I love her body style. I love her framework. I love her milkiness. And I especially love her personality!

If you want to fill your barn with Everly's, then Strider is your man!

The goats are enjoying their FarmFountain™ today (turn the sound up and listen to all the lip smacking sounds the babies are making (ignore the rooster🤪))! Nothing beats fresh, cold, clean water always full to the brim! Best part...I never have to fill it myself!😎

I should have FarmFountain™ kits back available in a couple of days, if all goes well.😁

For anyone new to goats, building your infrastructure right now, I would give you the following three bits of advice:

When you build your first pens/pastures, don't invest a ton of time in making the prettiest fence you have in your mind's eye. The reason being that you are going to change it very soon, as you realize how much easier and more efficient a different layout will make your everyday farm life. Believe me, it is NOT FUN to pull out that beautiful fencing that took forever to build so you can rearrange your pens. Don't ask me how I know!

Instead, focus your resources on buying good quality materials (my recommendations are below) and making it SOLID. Brace those corner posts with diagonals and stretch your fence TIGHT using the tractor, truck, or come along. A loose fence doesn't last, and predators can push under easily. You'll save a lot of stress and headache later by investing your time into making it solid. Don't ask me how I know!

And finally, make EVERYTHING tractor accessible. Even if you don't have a tractor. Even if you don't think you'll ever get a tractor. We use 8ft minimum gates (12-16' way better) now. Make your hay feeding area with large drive-in gates, as you see in the picture. Make your barn doors big enough, too. Your back will thank me later down the road. Again, don't ask me how I know! (see the pattern here?😜😂)

As for specifics, I use 5ft heavy gauge woven wire around my bucks, 4ft heavy gauge woven wire around my does (especially heavy gauge around high traffic areas), and 5ft lightweight wire around all the doe pastures. I raise Nigerians BTW. I like having 2x4 rails around my doe barn, but that's mostly a looks factor, and not what I recommend installing on your first fence build (wait until you KNOW that this fence is staying put).

If you need some more pictures or want some shelter ideas (especially a tractor accessible 12x15 shed w/removable front wall that goes on and off in about 2 min🤩), I have a whole page on getting started: https://www.cottonwoodhollowhomestead.com/how-to-raise-goats.html

Looking for a milk buck!? Noble is your guy!🥛💪

Sired by Cedar View David *B, whose dam has put herself on the ADGA NATIONAL TOP 10 BREED LEADERS 12x...yes, TWELVE TIMES!!! 🙌

Just check out some of her numbers:
⭐️4th lactation 1750 #
⭐️5th lactation 1670 #
⭐️6th lactation 1610 #
⭐️And even her 7th lactation with 1550 #...very impressive for a doe that age.

Not to mention earning herself the 3rd best udder at the 2018 ADGA National show!👏

Noble though isn't all about numbers and papers...

Noble definitely takes after his mom, Dottie, in personality. Sweet, calm, and just wonderful to be around.
Dottie is a wonderful mother; she more than proved that last year when she gave birth to 6 kids and proceeded to feed them all for the first couple of weeks with milk to spare! All six grew to be strong and healthy!

Noble would be an ideal buck for a small dairy, or even just as a foundation buck for a backyard breeder wanting a great family buck to build their homestead goat dairy!

Heads up! Jericho never even made it to the website; he was taken so fast! Unfortunately, his buyer had a circumstance out of her control, and I am offering this barn-burning good buck back to the public at a DISCOUNT!

Jericho pretty well sums up the best of my herd. His dam, Josie, is easily top 5 in my herd...probably top 3 favorite. Josie is not only a GORGEOS doe to behold in the pasture (she really is fit to be crowned a queen!👑) but has my FAVORITE udder to hand milk. It's butter smooth. You wouldn't think it by looking at a picture, but it possesses all the qualities that can only be experienced, which make for an outstanding handmilking udder. Topped by her perfect milkstand manners of course!! You'll just sorta slip into a trance and a moment later realize you're done and have 1.5 quarts of frothy white milk in the pail!🥛

His sire line is one that I am excited about to the utmost!... Cedar View David *B, aka Davy, son of the already legendary milker SGCH Cedar View Phoebe! Phoebe holds 12...yes, 12 ADGA National Top 10 milk awards spread over 6 consecutive years! Even as a 7-year-old, she continued as one of the highest producers on Top 10, easily keeping pace with the other competitors on the list, most of whom were far younger at 3-4 years old.

Jericho is a very sweet goat...just like his mama, who loves attention and is very calm. His confirmation is already outstanding, just look at that top line! I already have a Josie son in my buck pasture, but if Jericho doesn't find a home, I may just have to have TWO Josie sons all to myself... He's a buck I would love to work with in my breeding program. His sister is retained without a smidgen of doubt...she's staying until she freshens (I already think she's the best doeling from this year's crop).

Sire: Cedar View David *B (Cedar View Apollo*B, 1x Junior GCH, 1x senior GCH, 1x BOB, 1x BIS x Elite SGCH Cedar View Phoebe 4*M, VEEE90, Reserve Grand 2 year old at 2017 National show, 7th place 3 year old and 3rd place udder at the 2018 National show, 2nd best udder at 2018 NAILE, 305 day DHI accomplishments; total of 12x ADGA Top 10 Breed Leader in 6 different years, including 3 lactations over 1600 #).

Dam: Sinai Thunder Josie 1*M 1*D, GEEEE89, 5.9 # test day high (Sinai Thunder EX Maccabees *B *S, VEV89, 88.8VG x Sinai Thunder Psalms of Hallel (passed shortly after her first freshening with Josie, never put on milk test)).

I raise my herd completely holistically, and have had a special focus on breeding for TOP QUALITY MILK!! Check out the last photo above. This is the kind of milk we breed for and what we currently get from our does! It's thick, creamy, oh-so-smooth, and SWEET!

Here's a buck that will turn heads!!😯

Ready to make the milk flow like a river from your herd??!🥛🌊

Cottonwood Hollow Royal *B*S is your man.

Dam: SG (pending) Cottonwood Hollow Dottie 9*M9*D, GEEE89, 900 # milker, multiple time first in class at shows. (D and L Meadows DS Boone *B *S VEE88, 87.7VG, sire of the daughter who won the 2022 AGS National dam and daughter class x Sinai Thunder Everlasting Joy 8*D AR, SG pending, +EVE88, 87.5Vg, 5.9 # test day high, 1070 # for 305).

Royal and his brother Noble are a couple of stellar young bucks packed with an impressive track record. His sire is our new Cedar View buck, whom I brought in to take our milk production to the next level! Davy's dam holds 12...yes, 12 ADGA National Top 10 milk awards spread over 6 consecutive years! Even as a 7-year-old, she continued as one of the highest producers on Top 10, easily keeping pace with the other competitors on the list, most of whom were far younger at 3-4 years old.

Dottie is my absolute favorite homebred doe for just so many reasons. Wonderful mother. Wonderful milk producer, easy to hand milk. Overachiever (she has had 17 babies now in only 4 freshenings! Including 6 last year). Dottie has one of those wonderfully overwhelming, sweet, and calm personalities that's just impossible to shake. Nothing ever worries her, and not even if the rest of the herd runs in fright from something will Dottie get concerned; she just comes right over to see what everything's all about! And did I mention that Dottie has one of the PRETTIEST udders?!🤩

Royal and Nobel seem to be taking after Dottie's personality. They are all over us when we are in the pasture!

Let's talk about natural dewormers.

I have been raising my herd with virtually no chemical inputs for the past 8 years.

I kid out about 20 does per year and own from 70-120 goats at any given time of the year. Although I do have some pastures for grazing, I do not have the option for pasture rotation due to limited space, and my area is prime worm country. Tons of humidity, lots of rain showers, and heat in the summer. Local farmer friends battle worms with their sheep and goats all year long.

To date, this has been my degree of trouble with internal parasites: 0.
No deaths. No overloads that require drastic dewormer dosages to get under control.

Ironically, almost everyone around here says herbs don't work. The herbs just aren't strong enough for worms.

The thing most don't realize about a plant-based dewormer blend is this: A single plant can easily have multiple anti-parasitic compounds. Combine multiple dewormer plants into a blend and you not only gain the synergy which is greater than the sum of the whole, but also dozens of parasite-punching compounds in one go.

How many active ingredients are in a chemical dewormer?

One.

Sometimes two...
But usually just one.

So you tell me. If you are a parasite, which is easier to become immune to? Two chemical compounds, or dozens?

My own experience has given me a 100% success with my approach.

That said, for many people, herbal dewormers have failed.

Why??

I suspect they missed the most important part of a natural dewormer (and the only caveat, in my opinion, to the herbal route).

Consistency and frequency.

YOU MUST BE COMMITTED TO YOUR DEWORMING SCHEDULE. Every single week. 52 weeks of the year. That's the first mistake most people make. They don't do it every week. Herbs aren't like a chemical that continues in the system for weeks or months at a time (although I personally think that's another score for herbs. Are those drugs really healthy to have floating around that long?).

A couple of other problems can arise, which will definitely block success. One is herb quality. Dried herbs vary in quality a TON, and their strength weakens after several years of storage.

The other is toxin load. Goats that have received a great deal of interventions through a needle contain a greater deal of chemicals and thus, toxins. Hay and grain that has been sprayed with herbicide/pesticide will also accumulate toxins in your goat's system, among other causes. Toxins slow the immune system and provide food for the parasites to reproduce much faster. In that regard, parasites are nature's garbage disposal, but unfortunately, they don't stop at the toxins; they leach precious nutrition from your goat's body until the animal can no longer support itself.

Thankfully, toxins can be removed as well, and for some goats, I have found that I simply couldn't make any headway with their overall thriftiness until I put them through a good detox program. After that, it was much easier to keep them in good health and body condition.

Sooo...
For anyone interested in learning about my exact approach in more detail, including what product I use, please go here: https://www.cottonwoodhollowhomestead.com/natural-deworming.html

Please note, I'm not getting any kind of financial kickback from this post or the products I recommend. It's purely educational, and my sincerest hope is that it will help someone who has struggled with losing goats to parasite overload. I've talked to a lot of breeders, many of them overseas (I actually receive more overseas requests for all-natural herd support info than from in the US, interestingly), and many of them have lost their beloved goat to a parasite problem while following the standard chemical approach to parasite management. I can't say 100% that the herbal route will work for you; there are a lot of variables to think about, so this is just me sharing what has worked for me, and what I have learned experimenting on my own herd.
