Picking up baby chicks from the post office is one of the highlights of spring and summer around here.

We wait for the call from the post office early in the morning and then excitedly head into town to pick them up.

Once they’re back at the farm, we take each of the 300 chicks out of the box and introduce them to their new home. They spend their first few weeks in the brooder house, where it’s nice and warm while they grow feathers and gain strength.

At 2–3 weeks old, they’ll move out to pasture and spend the rest of their days exploring fresh grass, hunting insects, and enjoying our Jako Pure chicken feed ration.

This is the first stage of our pasture-raised poultry process, and it’s one of our favorites.

We especially love that our kids get to be part of it. ❤️

14 years ago this week, on a very windy day, Daniel and I were married here on the farm.

That morning, my mother-in-law Judy not only helped host our wedding in her front yard, but she also made 30 fresh strawberry pies for the reception. And every year since, she’s made us a strawberry pie for our anniversary. ❤️

A lot has changed in 14 years — leaving my job as a nurse, adding employees, having three amazing boys, surviving years of drought, losing my mom, buying the farm and business, and so many other moments that challenged us and pulled us closer together. And somewhere in the middle of all of that have been so many laughs and memories I wouldn’t trade for anything.

I’m grateful we’re still building this life together.

Here’s to 14 years and counting, together on the farm! 🍓

I love hearing your stories and learning what brought you here.

Usually it starts with wanting healthier food, not trusting our food system, or wanting to use food as medicine. And honestly, I hear some version of the same story almost every time I meet a new member.

Never underestimate what rain means to a farmer — and what it means for your food.

After weeks of heat and wind and drought, this rain feels like relief, gratitude, and hope all rolled into one.
