⚠️ WARNING! ⚠️
This is a serious topic for us, but one that I’m trying to make a little more lighthearted — hence the use of Henny Penny. 😂🐔
We did have to cull a few birds tonight. Some were bullies, while others had birth defects or simply weren’t doing well. This is never something we enjoy doing, and we don’t take it lightly. We exhausted every other option we could think of, but unfortunately, it was time to make the decision that was best for those birds and for the flock as a whole.
We use the broomstick method because, in our experience, it is quick, humane when done correctly, and creates the least amount of mess. It’s not a fun part of raising chickens, but sometimes responsible flock management means making some really hard decisions.
Hopefully, you at least got a little chuckle out of Henny Penny. 😂 Sometimes you have to find a little humor in the hard parts.

Good morning everyone! ☀️ Got up early enough to come get this shot before heading to work.
Things might get a little wonky around here for the next week or two while I settle into a new job, so please be patient with me! It’s not something I wanted to do, but it’s something I have to do. You can’t rob Peter to pay Paul forever! 😂
Anyways, I hope y’all have a GREAT start to your week! Please wish me luck on the new job—I’m excited, nervous, and just a little scared all at the same time! 😬😂
I’ll still be squeezing in the chickens, eggs, and farm life whenever I can. 🐔🥚❤️

Just got in from collecting eggs and thought I’d share what we got tonight! The ladies have actually been doing pretty good, especially considering it’s been in the triple digits the last few days! 🥵🐔

Just out here trying to lessen the fly population, and feel like im definitely losing this battle, lol this was one of the reasons we burned last night to maybe help but we need some other ideas that yall have tried and that work that can atleast keep them under control. Would prefer not to use chemicals if at all possible.

Good evening everyone! Did a light raking in the runs today and now gonna go through and burn everything in all the high traffic areas for the ladies, this is just my opinion but it helps kill stuff on the surface and helps break stuff down a little faster. We did the runs pretty heavily and all the hangout spots heavily and the lighter traffic areas got a good once over. Will probably do this again once it cools off more and we get some moisture so we can more heavily hit everything. PSA!
UPDATE. Nutrena has already reached back out and is gonna make it right. And also do some investigating to make sure it's not on their end. Again we are not trying to bash them just trying to warn anyone that their may be some bad feed from moisture getting to it some where along the way.

Well, learned a valuable lesson today. We've had this issue before so it's not just from one store. This is the 3rd bag of Nutrena Feed naturewise chick starter that we have had this issue with. Now we are not bashing them by any means, we love their product and it could be nothing they have to do with.(stores could be mishandling it) We have reached out to them are are waiting for a response. This is simply a PSA , would hate for anyone to lose birds from bad feed. Always check your feed before dumping it into your storage bins! Thankfully, we did just that because we could smell the mildew when we opened the first bag. Thank goodness our other feed wasn't contaminated and we can take these two back tomorrow.

This is what happens with chicken math!! 😂🐔
Trying to find feeders and waterers that you actually like AND that work is a whole adventure! 🤦‍♂️ After today’s clean-out, we’re gonna be making A LOT more room in the shed.
We’re keeping all of our 2-piece feeders, the heated waterers, and a few other things we really like. Everything else? GONE! 👋😂 We’re even getting rid of our big feed barrels!
So now I need to know… what is YOUR favorite feeder and waterer, and why? 👇🐔
