FIELD NOTES: North Dakota Deer Picnic 🦌

Seven hours of driving round trip might be a little ambitious for a picnic… but when deer people are involved, apparently that’s perfectly reasonable. 😂

Had a great day at the North Dakota Deer Picnic at the beautiful Sandy Oaks Lodge. It was so good catching up with familiar faces, meeting some new deer farmers, and spending the day talking deer.

And I have to give a shoutout to Bob Miller — those impressive antlers behind me belong to bucks he raised.🦌

Long drive, good people, beautiful place — definitely worth the miles. 🦌

And with breeding season getting closer, it was a pretty good reminder that the busy season is right around the corner. 💙

🦌 2026 BREEDING SEASON — TRAVEL ROUTES ARE BEING FINALIZED SOON!

Breeding season is right around the corner, and I’ll be finalizing my travel plans and routes starting next week.

If you’ve been thinking about booking A.I. services and haven’t reached out yet, now is the time to get on my schedule. Once my routes are set, adding additional stops—especially out-of-state stops—becomes much harder.

A.I. Diversified, Inc. provides trans-cervical artificial insemination services for:

🦌 Elk & Red Deer — nationwide travel
🦌 Whitetail — primarily North Dakota, with limited travel into surrounding states depending on location and scheduling

If we’ve already been in contact, you’re on my list! If we haven’t talked yet, or if your herd numbers have changed, please reach out soon.

When contacting me, please include:
• Name & Ranch Name
• City & State
• Species
• Estimated number of females

📩 Send me a Facebook message or email me at [email protected].

I’ll do my best to accommodate everyone, but once the miles, dates, and routes start falling into place, flexibility gets a whole lot tighter.

FIELD NOTES ⚠️ Warning Label Edition

Apparently my personality requires a disclaimer.

I work. I travel. I volunteer. I ride motorcycles. I hike things. I talk publicly about deer reproduction. I raise a tiny chaos apprentice. And every few months I confidently announce that I’m going to “slow down.”

Historically, this has not gone well.

Professional enough to be trusted with your breeding program. Unsupervised enough to see an empty weekend and immediately start making plans.

And judging by the women who came before me and the one I’m currently raising, I’m starting to suspect this may be hereditary.

Anyway, I’m still “trying to do less.”

That’s going great. 😂

Field Notes: First Exotic Wildlife Convention 🦘

First Exotic Wildlife Convention officially in the books!

Did I take pictures of the actual convention? Of course not. 😂
Thankfully, the baby kangaroo came through with photographic proof that we were, in fact, there.

Between the convention, catching up with people in the industry, making some new connections, and exploring San Antonio, it was a pretty great weekend.

And even better, I got to experience it with my mom and Stevie. Three generations taking on San Antonio—with good food, the River Walk, giant roadside-attraction-sized things, a baby kangaroo, and the usual amount of Stevie chaos.

A pretty great first Exotic Wildlife Convention… and judging by that last picture, we used every bit of the weekend. 😂

Until the next Field Notes. ✈️🦘

I spent the weekend making questionable financial decisions in Deadwood.

No regrets… well, maybe just a couple.

Fortunately, I had even better company than I had luck, and you really can’t ask for much more than that.

Now it’s time to put on my responsible adult hat, pack the business cards, and head to the Exotic Wildlife Association Convention.

Life’s all about balance… or at least convincing yourself it is.

See ya’ll in Texas.

Field Notes

Most people here know me because of A.I.

But Monday through Friday, you’ll usually find me somewhere else—hard hat on, hiking to another inspection, and occasionally rewarded with a view like this.

Different job. Same appreciation for being outdoors.

Not a bad office for the day.

The A.I. season has a way of filling every calendar, every mile, and every day.

So before the next round of schedules, road trips, and early mornings, here’s a reminder that it’s okay to enjoy the quiet moments too.

Fourteen seconds.
A mountain road.
A full heart.

Back to the chaos soon enough.

Field Notes

Some days the office has four walls.

Yesterday, mine had rolling hills, miles of trail, and a view that made me stop for a minute instead of checking my email.

Before heading to Kansas City for the 2026 NAEBA Annual Convention, I traded my desk for a hike and soaked in a little fresh air. Field season doesn’t leave a lot of room to slow down, so when it does, you take it.

Today the boots are swapped for an airport terminal (and a Bloody Mary 🍅✈️), and I’m on my way to catch up with old friends, make new connections, and spend a few days with people who are just as passionate about the elk industry as I am.

Here’s to good views, good conversations, and another great convention.

📒 Field Notes

Life gets busy.

Field season.
Community meetings.
Deadlines.
Travel.
The never-ending to-do list.

Then there are days like this that remind me why I work so hard in the first place.

These are the moments I’ll remember long after the calendar is empty. ❤️

Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸

Wishing everyone a day full of family, good food, fireworks, and making memories.
