๐จ ALPACA EMERGENCY? ๐จ
For a moment, we thought weโd lost oneโฆ ๐ฑ
Flat on his side. Not moving. Eyes closed. Legs stretched out.
But waitโฆ ๐
Head pops up.
Looks around.
Then immediately goes right back to sleep. ๐ดโ๏ธ
Welcome to the dramatic world of alpacas.
People often ask how we know an alpaca is okay without running into the pasture every five minutes:
โ
The Breakfast Nap Test โ A truly sick alpaca usually skips breakfast. This guy inhaled his morning hay and grain, then declared the day exhausting.
โ
Tummy Facing South โ Alpacas are surprisingly strategic sunbathers. Youโll often find them positioned to soak up warmth or catch a cooling breeze.
โ
The Ear Twitch โ Even while napping, those ears keep working. A twitch here, a swivel thereโฆ theyโre still tuned into the world around them.
So why do alpacas sunbathe in summer? โ๏ธ
After shearing, the sun helps warm their muscles, encourages relaxation, and lets them enjoy one of lifeโs greatest pleasures: doing absolutely nothing. Many alpacas also enjoy stretching out to regulate body temperature and catch a breeze through their freshly shorn fleece.
Moral of the story: Before you panic and call the farm, remember that alpacas have mastered the art of looking deceased while actually living their best life. ๐๐ฆ๐ค
