**Lights Out Alert This Weekend**

Heads up birders, a lot of migration is expected during Labor Day Weekend. The fall migration season is about to kick into high gear. We have a unique set up this weekend as a strong area of low pressure in the Atlantic will be tilted just right to provide a wind from the north to northeast across the Northeast and eastern Great Lakes region. The low level wind flow will continue to guide birds toward the Gulf. Saturday night will likely be the biggest migration night of the weekend with more than 300 million birds in flight. We are about 2-3 weeks away from the fall migration peak. You can help by turning off those outdoor lights on big migration nights.

We’ve got another great lineup of local farms, food producers, makers and community organizations joining us this week! Come fill your bags with fresh produce, mushrooms, eggs, poultry, pork, sourdough, honey, maple syrup, hummus, baked treats and more, grab something delicious to eat, and browse locally made art, cards, 3D-printed gifts and wooden creations.

💚 And this week is about more than shopping local! We’ll also be collecting:

🐾 Food & supplies for the Dutchess County SPCA
🥫 Food donations for the Hyde Park Food Pantry

Plus, stop by our community tables and say hello to DS Home Services and the Viola Rod & Gun Club!

🌱 And of course, don’t forget POP Club! Kids ages 3–12 can join us for another FREE hands-on activity, learn where their food comes from, and earn $2 in POP Bucks to spend on fresh produce at the market!

Our Pet Food Pantry shelves are running low, and we could use your help! We’re looking for donations of adult dog wet food and both dry and wet adult cat food. Any and all brands are welcome and appreciated!
Food insecurity is an unfortunate reality that affects many members of our community, and we don't want our neighbors to feel like surrendering their pet is their only option when they can't afford to feed them.
We’re proud to offer this program to help local families keep their pets well-fed, happy, and healthy, and with your support, we can continue to do so. Every can and every bag makes a difference! 💙

This is exactly why eating local and eating in season matters. 🌱🍎🥕🍓

A recent video from More Perfect Union takes a look at America’s produce system — including how large companies can control genetics, distribution and profits while the actual growing is done by farmers, along with concerns surrounding pesticide use on produce. It’s a good reminder that there’s another way to feed our families.

🥕 Buy from local farms when food is in season.
🌱 Grow some of your own food when you can.
🥫 Can, freeze, ferment, dry and preserve the abundance of each season so you can enjoy it all year long.

When you shop directly from a local farmer, you can actually talk to the person growing your food. Ask how it was grown. Learn when it was harvested. Discover what’s in season. Try varieties you may never see in a grocery store.

And when tomatoes, peppers, berries, apples, herbs and vegetables are plentiful, preserve them. Our grandparents did this because it made sense — eat what the land is producing now and put some away for later.

Supporting local agriculture isn’t just about having fresher food. It helps keep farms farming, farmland productive, money in our local economy, and knowledge about growing and preserving food alive in our community.

That’s a big part of what a farmers market is all about. ❤️🌱

Know your farmer. Know your food. Eat with the seasons. Preserve the harvest. Support local.

The market is absolutely buzzing today! We’ve been making our way around taking pictures of all of our incredible vendors, and there is SO much local goodness filling the market. ❤️

Today’s POP Club theme is Hudson Valley Apples! 🍏🍎 Our kids are learning just how much work — and how many challenges — go into growing that perfect Hudson Valley apple.

They’re taking on our Apple Growing Challenge, discovering what farmers face from blossom to harvest, tasting different apple varieties, choosing their favorites, and helping us crown the Queen Apple! 👑🍎

And while the kids are learning, the rest of the market is overflowing with everything we love about Saturdays in Hyde Park — fresh-picked produce, farm-fresh meats and eggs, mushrooms, honey, breads and baked goods, delicious foods, handmade products and so much more, all brought to you by the farmers, producers, bakers, makers and small businesses behind them. 🌽🥚🍞🍯🥕🍄
