I drink caffeine rarely…so when I do, it’s like rocket fuel: stove deep cleaned, kitchen cabinet fronts scoured, mud room floor swept and pet beds shaken and washed, laundry load number 2 cycling, a couple of copper-bottom pots scoured, and these vintage brass beauties cleaned and shined. Yep - patina be dashed, I’m today (actually most days now that I see how much “patina” is actually grime! Thanks, and ). Off to tackle some barn and garage before the crash comes!

Same duo making “The Shire” magical in Fortuna are opening a second shop of unique whimsy in Ferndale! “West Farthing & Co” by Rhonda and Sue. I got a special preview, and can say it’s definitely worth a dedicated trip!

The garden taught me so much this year! A lot from the flowers I grew here for the first time: cosmos, snap dragons, scabiosa, yarrow, bachelor’s buttons, celosia, bush type zinnias, straw flower, echinacea. I have some new favorites! This year, we are not digging up the dahlia tubers of the “keepers,” but will cut them all the way down at the first frost, mulch and tarp. We lost about 40% of the ones we dug up last year, after a LOT of time and effort, hence this new approach. Old favorites are getting a close look so we can do better next season: sunflowers, sweet peas, some dahlias that didn’t perform great. Looking forward to the symbolic cleansing of a big burn pile, and making the lane for next year’s garden.

Warm and yummy crockpot meal: start with onions and garlic from , fresh stew meat from the 1/2 side we just got, local potatoes, the last huge zucchini, and all the yummies for a great broth (Cabernet, stock, tomato paste, spices, etc). Serving with sourdough bread. Grandkids are coming over later and I want it to smell and taste like Mimi’s house 😍🍁

Autumn ❤️ Harvesting chamomile and echinacea before the rains begin. Starting wood stove season, grateful for the full woodpile Wade stacked. Traveling south for Shellsy’s wedding, remembering her from before she was born, and now married ❤️ Seeing precious friends and treasured family. Little hands, big egg harvest with new layers ❤️🐓 I do love fall 🍁🍂
