Every w**e Jill tasted got a three.

Then I poured the Pinotage.

She smelled the glass and said:

“This smells like story time and boyfriends.”

That tasting happened years ago in Taiwan, before Coordinates Vineyards existed, and I still think about it behind the bar today.

W**e tasting can make people feel like there is a correct answer they are supposed to find. Blackberry. Cedar. To***co. Cassis.

But sometimes a w**e smells like a classroom rug, your grandfather’s garage, your grandmother’s kitchen, or something you haven’t thought about in twenty years.

Our latest blog is about w**e, memory, tasting without an answer sheet, and how Pinotage became our best-selling w**e.

Read it here:

And if you want to take the idea a little further, we’ll be pouring five South African Pinotages side by side at our Pinotage Library Tasting on November 8 in Fredericksburg.

What does Pinotage smell like? For one taster, it was story time and boyfriends. A personal story about w**e, memory and tasting without an answer sheet.

Dinner’s over. The night doesn’t have to be.

Friday and Saturday, our Main Street tasting room stays open until 9 PM. It is an easy next stop after dinner when nobody is ready to call it a night.

Add one more glass to your Fredericksburg w**e tasting plans and let the Texas Hill Country evening last a little longer.
