We raise crops, cattle, and own and operate the Lazy J Grand Lodge Jorgensen Land and Cattle has been family owned/operated in Ideal, SD, since 1909. We raise 10000 acres of crops, pasture our 800 head purebred Black Angus cow herd on 8000 acres of pasture, and have some of the best wild Pheasant hunting property in America. Our Black Angus herd is one of the most influential in the breed. Over 96
% of the Black Angus breed can trace some part of its pedigree back to our two famous genetic lines, Rito and Band. This storied and steadfast background holds true in our breeding today. Our annual bull sale has an offering of 140+ top quality bulls all bred with Jorgensen genetics. Stemming from our Angus herd, we have built a one-of-a-kind bull leasing business. Every year, we lease 3500 quality bulls with Jorgensen genetics across the mid-west to producers looking to improve the genetic background in their herds and get higher quality calves. This program is so unique and effective that Beef Magazine recognized Jorgensen Land and Cattle as the largest seedstock producer in America in its first annual "Seedstock 100". On top of a large cattle herd, we have a large cropping operation as well. We farm over 10000 acres in south central SD, where we raise Corn, Wheat, Soybeans, Alfalfa, Oats, Milo, and Forages. A majority of our crop acres are dedicated to producing feed for our cattle herd, which demands thousands of acres of forage every year. Additionally, we raise registered and certified Winter Wheat, Spring Wheat, and Oats seed for sale to producers. Our no-till cropping system is designed to utilize crop rotations that put soil health first, to guarantee that our soils can provide a healthy medium for producing crops for generations to come. We are also blessed with living in a part of the world that provides prime habitat for Ringneck Pheasants. Our wild Pheasants populations are some of the highest that can be found anywhere, and this gives us the opportunity to provide some best guided wild Pheasant hunting around. Every year we dedicate over 800 acres to food plots specifically designed to provide food and habitat to our wild Pheasant populations. Maintaining this large population opens up over 10000 acres of prime pheasant hunting property for us to provide guided hunts. We provide full service guiding and lodging in our 22 room, 44 person, lodge.
