🏆 National Junior Hereford Association Fed Steer Shootout Results 🏆

This year, five of our purebred steers represented our family in the National Junior Hereford Association Fed Steer Shootout, and we’re proud to share that one of them brought home top national honors!

Justis’s steer earned three national titles:
🥇 Champion Purebred Steer
🥇 Highest Average Daily Gain
🥇 Champion Overall Steer

This exceptional steer came from our unbroken female bloodlines (a Hometown daughter) reaching back to 1932, and a powerful /S Shaw Cattle Co. sire — /S Daybreak 11080 ET.

This honor follows last year’s success, when Jayda’s steer was named the National Hereford Purebred Steer with the Highest Marbling in 2024.

We’ve always been proud of our cattle and the heritage behind them — a legacy started more than 90 years ago by our grandparents and carried on today by our children. We couldn’t be prouder of Justis, and we know Jayda, Jeytt, Olivia, Whitney, and Justis are already looking forward to entering five more steers in 2026!

They weaned their calves this past weekend and are preparing to ship them to HRC Feedyard in Kansas this December.

HHH Waylon's Big Break L5 is a yearling bull this year we have to offer. He is out of our 2022 bull purchase from /S Shaw Cattle Co. We really have liked the look of these /S Daybreak 11080 ET calves have thrown for us in 2023, and the 2024 calf crop already looks great! His EPDs are in the top 10% for the breed in Ribeye Area (REA), Calving Ease (CE), Birth Weight (BW), Scrotal (SC), and Udder (UDDR). He is a bull that could work in your program.

He has /S Daybreak, /S Hometown, and /S TRM Fort Payne bloodlines backing him up, and would be a great addition to your purebred or crossbred operation.

We are proud of Jayda for her hard work on the ranch. She has grown to be a valuable part of the operation. Hard work and dedication will take you a long way in life, and her work at 3H Ranch is a small part of her growth as a young person. Thanks for all you pour into the ranch, we are very proud of you!

Congratulations to all the 4H and FFA market steer exhibitors at the 2023 Union Co Fair. We are proud of all the members that brought high quality beef to the show and that so many were purchased and consumed locally. The buyers certainly purchased well cared for and fed out beef this year!

Congratulations to Kinley for her Prime + steer and all the other top 5 carcasses. These kids are carrying on the next generations of traditions in our county. We deeply miss our friend Dekker Dane, and are honored that his legacy carries on through this program.

Personally, we are also proud of our son Justis, who’s steer graded Prime as well and was 4th overall carcass. He was very close to Dekker and is proud to have this program to participate in as a way to remember Dekker’s smile and sense of humor.

It takes good healthy cattle, quality genetics, and a good feeding program to grow high quality beef. Look forward to 2024 when 3H Ranch will have more 4H and FFA steers being exhibited by our youngest generation of polled hereford breeders.

Congratulations to the winner of the inaugural Union Co. Fair Carcass of Merit Contest sponsored by the Dekker Adams FFA Memorial Foundation. The winner this year is Kinley Adams, and it is bittersweet as Kinley is Dekker's little sister.

This event was evaluated by the Baker/Union County Livestock Extension Agent, and the steer carcasses were ranked on quality grade first, then ranked on yield grade. This is an educational contest to help students in 4H and FFA learn about the quality of the steer carcasses after the show, and to reward exhibitors for the quality of the finished product they toiled on for many months. The winner receives a custom belt buckle and $250 cash prize is in memory of our friend and FFA member Dekker Adams, who we miss dearly. His 2022 Union Co. Fair market steer was sold after his sudden passing and the proceeds of that steer are the funds (along with many other generous donations) that are supporting this program into the future. The last steer he raised (2022 UCF Steer) graded PRIME, and his family and the memorial fund board thought this would be a way to continue his passion for ranching and cattle and his desire to raise quality cattle.

We miss him dearly, but find strength in remembering his life and passions in agriculture through this carcass of merit program. The entire results will be emailed to all the 2023 steer exhibitors at fair and will include the entire carcass calculations as well as a picture of the rib eye.
