A good reminder!
As we head into spring hatching/chicken season, here are a few things to remember đŁ
1. Local breeders are not fast food.
We donât run on Amazon Prime timelines. Genetics, power outages, fence jumpers, broodiness, and breeding breaks all happen. Mother nature makes the rules, not us.
2. Scammers are everywhere.
Fake accounts, stolen photos, bought followers...
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If theyâre pushy, huge red flag. If they have all pullets in every color you want⊠also a red flag. Ask for a live video or a photo with the date. A real breeder will understand.
3. Respect peopleâs time.
If youâre not serious about buying, donât take up a breederâs time. And pleaseâknow what your husband will allow before asking for 30 pictures of wings and toenails đ
4. Google is free. Use it.
Learn basic poultry care, anatomy, and common issues before jumping in. Germs are everywhereâitâs okay. Youâve got cooties too.
5. Know what you want.
If you want fluffy pets, you donât need show quality. âPet qualityâ birds usually have tiny flaws only breeders notice.
If you want to breed, be upfront. Its saves us both time and heart ache.
6. Have patience.
These birds are worth the wait. Hatchery birds are fineâbut they wonât be the same. Silkies from dedicated breeders have a look and personality you just canât mass produce.
Please be kind, respectful, and patient with breeders this season.
We love these birds deeply, and trusting someone with them feels a lot like trusting them with our children.

Sheâs pet quality because she doesnât fit a recognized color and has lighter skin/eyesâŠ
âŠbut sheâs absolutely perfect to me.
