On average, about 60% of the human body is water—but that number isn’t the same for everyone.
Here’s how it typically breaks down:
Adult men: ~60%
Adult women: ~50–55% (generally a bit lower due to higher body fat percentage)
Infants: ~70–75% (they’re basically tiny water balloons)
Different parts of your body also contain different amounts of water:
Brain & heart: ~70–75%
Muscles: ~75–80%
Skin: ~60–65%
Bones: ~25–30%
So if you weigh 150 pounds (68 kg), roughly 90 pounds (40 kg) of that is water.
It’s not just sitting there either—water is involved in temperature regulation, nutrient transport, joint lubrication, and pretty much every chemical reaction keeping you alive.
