Friends, with all the hoopla last year about the price and availability of eggs, I decided to get a bunch of hens and offer eggs to a limited number of people. These hens are pastured, which means, unlike commercial hens, they spend most of their time outside, walking on soil, foraging for insects and seeds. Outside = vulnerable, and every Coopers Hawk, Red Tail Hawk, Bald Eagle, Great Horned Owl, raccoon, and mink knows where they are, thus the $1200 netting over the 2000 square foot yard.
Like everywhere other than the US, we don’t refrigerate our eggs. When an egg leaves the hen, it is covered with a “bloom” that prohibits bacteria from going through the shell for ninety days. So the eggs I’m offering are unwashed, unrefrigerated, and delicious, laid by happy hens in a natural environment. Price is $6 a dozen if you come to the farm to pick up. Price is $7 a dozen delivered to one location in northern Kentucky, minimum three dozen. If you don’t eat three dozen eggs in ninety days, you’re not eating enough eggs! 😉
Contact me through Messenger if you have questions. Thank you.

Finally found one of the tomato hornworms ravaging my 74-foot tomato crop. They’re hard to find because they are the exact same color as a tomato plant. They’re easier to find after a parasitic wasp has laid eggs on them.

I’ve been growing hard neck garlic for fifteen years, mostly because I like having lots of scapes for pesto, but I’m always disappointed by how much of it rots while stored in the basement. I learned last year that soft neck stores better than hard neck, so I purchased some soft neck seed garlic and planted it last fall. It also matures sooner than hard neck. We just ‘pulled’ the soft neck. It will go to a breezy, shady shed to cure for a month or so.
