As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we wanted to wish everyone a safe, relaxing, and delicious holiday. Whether you're firing up the grill, heading to the lake, gathering with family, or settling in to watch the Indy 500, we hope your weekend is full of good company—and even better cheese.

When it comes to race-day snacks, cheese is the clear pole-position winner. Why? It’s the perfect grab-and-go fuel: no prep stops needed, pairs beautifully with just about everything, and keeps your snack game running at top speed. From a creamy bite of Trillium to the bold finish of Nightshade, cheese is the MVP of every charcuterie board, picnic basket, and cooler.

Need a few reasons cheese should be on your holiday starting grid?

🏁 Fast Fuel – Packed with protein to keep your engines running all weekend long.
🏁 Perfect Pit Stop Snack – Easy to slice, share, and snack between race laps and backyard games.
🏁 A Crowd Favorite – Cheese always takes the checkered flag at any gathering.
🏁 Pairs with Everything – Crackers, burgers, fresh fruit, your favorite beverage—you name it.
🏁 No Yellow Flags Here – There’s no wrong way to enjoy cheese.

Rookie Celebration at the Speedway

This week, we had the chance to attend the annual Rookie Celebration at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that was sponsored by The American Dairy Association of Indiana —and we were excited for so many reasons.

First, it’s one of our favorite events because it puts milk in the spotlight!

Did you know the tradition of the Indy 500 winner drinking milk dates back to 1936, when race car driver Louis Meyer asked for a bottle of buttermilk after his victory? The moment became iconic, and ever since, milk has been offered to every winner in Victory Lane.

One of our favorite small-world connections is that Louis Meyer’s grandson, Scott, is a family friend, and I’m lucky enough to catch up with him and his wife, Cara, each year at this event. It’s such a fun reminder of how connected our worlds of dairy and racing really are—and now we’re all wondering… which milk will be chosen by this year’s winner?

We were also especially excited to see our Trillium on the cheese table, beautifully topped with truffle honey—such a delicious and elegant way to present it. The creamy, tangy cheese paired with the earthy sweetness of the honey was truly a winning combination. Kudos to the chef who decided on that pairing—it may have been one of our favorite presentations of Trillium yet!

Hello cheese friends!

Spring market season is officially here, and we’re excited to be back out seeing so many familiar faces (and meeting plenty of new ones too). This week is full of fresh starts—new markets, new cheeses, and a wonderful new retail partner we’re excited to introduce. Does anyone recognize the park in the photo above?

New Customer of the Week:
Tuttle Orchards, Greenfield, Indiana

We’re thrilled to welcomeTuttle Orchards in Greenfield as a new Tulip Tree Creamery retail partner!

Tuttle Orchards has been a beloved Indiana destination since 1928 and is now in its 4th generation of family ownership - that’s an incredible 98 years of farming and serving our community.

If you stop in, there’s a good chance you’ll meet James, who has been with Tuttle for 14 years. He started as seasonal fall help and now serves as co-manager of the farm store while also running their greenhouse each spring. We loved hearing how thoughtful they’ve been about expanding their specialty local food offerings, especially their cheese selection.

Another of their co-managers, Heather, is a long-time supporter of ours.
Tuttle was looking to expand into more aged and harder cheeses with longer shelf life, so they’ll be carrying a variety of Tulip Tree cheeses, with plans to grow the selection over time. They also proudly support other local food producers, including Risin Creek goat cheese and Rhim’s meats, and focus heavily on sourcing Indiana-grown and Indiana-made products whenever possible.
Beyond the cheese case, Tuttle Orchards is much more than an orchard:
-Over 200 acres and more than 5,000 apple trees
-Fresh local strawberries (coming soon)
-A huge fall destination with pumpkins and family activities
-A greenhouse full of seasonal plants
-A café and bakery
-Local produce they grow themselves or source nearby

And the best part? They’re only about 30 minutes from downtown Indianapolis (4o minutes from us), making it the perfect day trip.

Hours: Monday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. (Closed Sundays)

We’re also planning a Tulip Tree sampling day at Tuttle Orchards this June or July, likely on a Saturday when their summer produce is in full swing so, stay tuned!

New at the Markets This Week

We’ve got some fun seasonal favorites headed your way:
**Dutch Tulip Chermoula**
Our newest flavored Dutch Tulip is here! A bright, savory blend inspired by North African herbs and spices. You’ll find it at all farmers markets (except Zionsville) this week.

Beer + Mustard Fonsdue
Always a crowd favorite—rich, creamy, and ready to heat and enjoy.

Dutch Pudding - this week’s flavors:
• Chocolate
• Butterscotch

Market Updates

We’re excited to kick off a few markets this week:

We’re back! Join us this Thursday (5/14) for our first Statehouse Market of the season. After this week, we’ll be there every other Thursday.

In case it's slipped your mind, Mother’s Day is this Sunday!

If you’re still thinking about what to bring to Mother’s Day brunch, or looking for a little something special for your Mom who already buys her own flowers, we’d love to help. Simple advice, buy a Trillium!

Trillium is our Cheese of the Month and it's perfect for Mother’s Day. Soft, creamy, and beautiful on a cheese board, it’s one of those cheeses that might make your mom love you a little more (at least, it works for me). It also makes a wonderful gift, especially for those of you who's mom is a foodie.

You can find Trillium and all our other cheeses at the farmers markets this weekend or at a cheese counter near you (see our list of local retailers at the bottom of the page).

Here's what we'll have at the Farmers Markets on 5/9:

And if you know someone who still needs a little nudge for a Mother’s Day gift, we’d be so grateful if you’d share this newsletter with them. Cheese is always a good idea.

Hope to see you this weekend!

Happy May Cheese Friends!

Since we name our cheeses after flowers (because we truly love flowers), I can’t help but notice what’s blooming right now…

Are anyone else’s alliums popping? I look forward to them every year—and honestly, they might be my favorite… at least until the peonies bloom

Which brings me to another flower I love… Trillium.

While trillium season has already passed outside, we’re celebrating it in the creamery—Trillium is our Cheese of the Month, and we’ll be sampling it all weekend at the markets.

It’s one of my absolute favorite cheeses to pair. It’s just so beautiful (you know I believe we eat first with our eyes), and that mushroomy aroma gets me every time. I also love the feel of the rind—it’s one of those cheeses that’s just as much about texture as it is flavor. My favorite pairing is with chocolate and a red blend.

I’d really love to hear—what do you love about Trillium?

Summer Markets Start Tomorrow – Saturday, 5/2

It’s going to feel like a true spring morning—so grab your sweater, your coffee, and your market basket.
And come early if you can…
We’ll have fresh stretched mozzarella (always worth it), and a very limited amount of Nightshade—only 10 pieces going to each market. Those tend to disappear fast… like within the first 30 minutes fast.

Here's the lineup for this weekend:

Fresh & Soft
• Trillium
• Nettle
• Foxglove
• Snapdragon
• Fromage Frais

Specialties & Treats
• Fonsdue – Beer & Mustard
• Chocolate Pudding
• Cultured Butter

Aged
• Blazing Star
• Dutch Tulip
• Dutch Tulip - Chourmula
• Hops
• Larkspur
• Milkweed
• Nightshade -- limited
• Marigold

The Chemistry of Cheese!

Yesterday was really special. We paired our cheeses with Mallow Run Wines and spent time with Women & Hi Tech and the American Chemical Society.

We had the chance to listen to Maria Alvim Gaston, PhD, present The Chemistry of Cheese – From Milk to Molecule, where she dove deep into the science behind what we do every day. It was such a thoughtful and fascinating way to look at cheese.

After that, we shared the lighter, more hands-on side—the art of cheese making. We talked about the techniques we’ve learned over the years, how important it is for us to stay connected to the farm, and we even demonstrated how we stretch mozzarella.

There were about 40 people there, so many great questions, and truly—everyone seemed to have such a good time. And at one point, I had the entire room say “cheese” together for a photo (see photo below) —which made me smile more than I expected. The feedback was so kind it actually made me blush a little.

If you were there, thank you for being part of it. I’d love to do more of those kinds of events. Please post and tag us if you took any photos, pretty please.

p.s. The event space at Mallow Run Winery is absolutely beautiful and our Trillium paired so well with their Rhubarb wine!

If you’re curious about these organizations, check them out here:

mallowrun.com (http://www.mallowrun.com)

Hope to see you this weekend. There’s something about the first market of the season that just feels really good.
Hope to run into you at one of the markets tomorrow!
Laura

May is American Cheese Month

And what better way to celebrate than getting back out to the markets and sharing cheese with all of you?

May is American Cheese Month, which always feels like a really special time for us. It’s a chance to celebrate the makers, the farms, and the communities behind cheese—and I’m so proud to be part of that story here in Indiana.

So we’re kicking it off the best way we know how… at market, with fresh cheese, and good people

Looking Ahead: May & Cheese Season

May is right around the corner, and it’s full of reasons to celebrate with cheese:

Mother’s Day (May 10)
Picnic Season
Graduation Sason (May-June)
This time of year is almost here, and it’s time to start thinking about how you want to celebrate!

Grazing Table??

You can absolutely hire a caterer and keep things simple—or, if you love a more personal (and often more memorable) approach, consider creating a grazing table that guests can enjoy throughout the party.

A well-built grazing table is not only beautiful, but it also lets you showcase incredible local products while offering something for everyone.
Here are a few of our favorite local pairings to build around your Tulip Tree cheeses:
Meats & Charcuterie
• Pig’s Tale Charcuterie
• Smoking Goose
Sweet Pairings
• Eagle Creek Apiary Honey
Breads & Crackers
• Amelia’s Bread
• Moontown Bakery items
Fresh & Seasonal
• Local fruits and vegetables from your farmers market (think strawberries, snap peas, radishes, herbs, and edible flowers!)
🧀 The Star of the Table
• A mix of soft, spreadable cheeses (Fromage Frais, Trillium)
• A few crowd-pleasers (Dutch Tulip, Milkweed)
• Something bold or unique (Foxglove, Hops)

****

Check out this spread below crafted by
10-56 Brewing & Catering in Knox, Indiana.
(They serve the Indianapolis area in case you need some help 1056brew.com (https://www.1056brew.com/) )

Simple Tips for a Standout Spread

Build in layers—boards, crates, or trays create height and interest
Pre-slice some cheeses while leaving others whole for visual appeal

Add small labels so guests know what they’re enjoying
Include a few “surprise bites” like chocolate truffles, chocolate pudding or spiced nuts.

Whether you go big or keep it simple, a grazing table creates a relaxed, interactive experience—perfect for celebrating such a big milestone.

If you’re planning a graduation party and want help selecting cheeses or quantities, we’re always happy to help you put something together!

****

We hope your gardens are starting to take shape and that you’re finding little ways to enjoy the season.

Thanks for supporting us through the winter markets—we can’t wait to see you outside again soon.

With gratitude (and cheese),
Laura & the Tulip Tree Team

New on Our Website: Let’s Talk Rennet

Cheese Fun Fact

Did you know cheese is one of the oldest prepared foods in the world? Evidence of cheesemaking dates back over 7,000 years, likely discovered by accident when milk was stored in containers made from animal stomachs (which naturally contain rennet!). Sometimes the best things really do come from happy accidents.

We can’t wait to see you this weekend—whether you’re stocking up, sampling something new, or just stopping by to talk cheese.
See you at the market!

Cheese of the Month

Dutch Tulip -- This buttery, crowd-pleasing favorite is perfect for Easter brunch boards, family gatherings, and spring snacking.

We’re Hiring for Farmers Markets

If you (or someone you know) enjoys talking to people, sampling delicious cheese, and being part of the happiest corner of a farmers market, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for folks who can work every weekend or every other weekend.

Perks include:
• A fun, upbeat market environment
• Finishing your workday around 2 p.m.
• And yes… the 50% off cheese perk is very real.

There’s something oddly satisfying about waking up early, working a lively market morning, and feeling like you’ve accomplished something before most people have finished brunch.
