The "Ugly Duckling" Stage 🦆😂

Our little Welsh Harlequins have officially reached that awkward teenage stage! They're losing their baby fluff, growing feathers everywhere, and looking a little... well... goofy. 😄
They are around 5 weeks old now.

This weekend we're building them a bigger pen because they're growing faster than I imagined. It won't be long before these awkward little ducklings turn into beautiful adult ducks.
Sometimes homesteading is just watching nature work its magic, one feather at a time. ❤️

Last night our French Black Copper Marans graduated to the outdoor brooder, and they handled their first night like little champs!
As one hatch grows up, another begins. We also set 12 American Bresse eggs in the incubator, and now the countdown to hatch day begins. There's always something exciting happening on a homestead!
Every hatch brings us one step closer to building the flock we've been dreaming about. ❤️🐓

🌱 A Little Harvest, A Lot of Gratitude ❤️
Today's garden bounty may not fill a truck bed, but it sure fills my heart.
A handful of fresh peppers, a few beautiful Roma tomatoes, and the pinto beans with ham are already slow-cooking for supper. Every vegetable in this picture is a reminder that rain, sunshine, patience, and a little hard work really do pay off.
Homesteading isn't about having the biggest garden. It's about celebrating every harvest, no matter how small.
This is just the beginning. 🌿🍅🫑

What a wonderful evening!
Tonight I had the privilege of visiting with a small group of ladies about Chicken Keeping 101. While it wasn't the large presentation I expected, it turned into something even better—a relaxed conversation around the table about chickens, homesteading, and learning together.
We talked about choosing breeds, raising baby chicks, predator protection, and I even got to share a little about my American Breese chickens.
Sometimes the best moments aren't in front of a crowd. Sometimes they're simply sitting around a table, sharing what you've learned with someone who's eager to listen.
Thank you for the invitation. I enjoyed every minute of it. ❤️🐓

🦆 Almost got my ducks in a row... 😂

Well... close enough! Around the homestead, things don't always line up perfectly, but somehow they always work out.
I think these little fluff balls have decided that a cuddle pile is much better than standing in a straight line. 💛
That's okay... perfection is overrated anyway.
Anyone else's life look a little like this? 😂
