A poem about today:

We are open,
It is icy,
If you were hopin’ (to cut a tree today),
It is doable but may be dicey 😬😬

Proper expectations for cutting a tree today:

When you cut a live tree in wet, icy weather, you will have a wet icy tree to take home. It will be heavier than a normal dry tree. We will not use our mechanical shaker or netting machine in this weather—the tree limbs are too brittle in the cold and ice. It would be ideal to allow your tree to thaw a bit and be allowed to dry in a garage or covered porch before you bring it inside.

We have sold out of precut trees for the season. Our field is open for you to choose and cut your own tree. As a reminder, we provide hand saws, you can bring your own (but no chain saws are allowed). We still have beautiful handmade greenery available if you’re not up to cutting a tree or need some last minute gifts or decorations.

We will be open today (Saturday 12/14) until 5pm, and Sunday 12/15 Noon-5pm. Tomorrow is the last day we’ll be open this season—Merry Christmas to you all, and we hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family and friends.

Tree Farm Timeline
• Spring is the time to test and prepare the soil and carefully plant the seedlings. In spring and early summer, tree farmers shear the older trees, to promote bushier growth and the classic conical shape.
• Throughout the warm-weather months of summer, they watch for insects and disease, and treat them as needed. In some parts of the country, older trees rarely need watering, but seedlings might need irrigation during summer dry spells. Throughout the growing season, farmers mow and/or use herbicides to keep down grass and weeds between and under the trees, which compete for nutrients and can kill the lower branches of the trees.
• In fall, farmers who plan to sell living conifers, which customers can plant after Christmas, dig up those trees and wrap their roots in burlap.
• In late November, Christmas tree harvest begins.

Good morning, tree customers/tree enthusiasts! Snow fa-la-la-la-fell last night 🤪, and the farm couldn’t look more festive. We don’t plow the field, so if you plan to cut your tree today, we recommend snow boots and possibly a tarp/blanket for you to lay on as you cut your tree. As a reminder, we provide hand saws, and you are welcome to bring your Saws-All, but no chain saws are allowed. We do have a limited selection of precut trees in our barn if you don’t desire the full snow experience. We open to serve you at Noon today (Sunday 11/26), and close at 5pm (despite the full moon, it’s dark by then).

🎄Merry 2nd of November from your favorite Christmas Tree Farm 🥰! We haven’t been posting much—we plant in March (brrr!) , we mow/trim in August/September 🥵, and we work nonstop October/November to make sure we’re ready for opening day (3 weeks from tomorrow—-this is your warning to start thawing that 30 pound turkey next week 🤣).

“What does hunting have to do with Christmas tree farming?” you ask? We work year round for 8-10 YEARS to provide a beautiful, natural product for you to display in your home. You have a festive experience, enjoy the outdoors, snap a few pics of your family selecting your perfect tree. Who else likes our product but never seems to stop at the checkout? DEER.

Hot off the press: Tanner, an avid 13 year old hunter just harvested a 5 year old 14 point buck at Walnut Ridge Farm. Needless to say he has a big smile with his trophy deer. This is his second deer for the season. He got a doe a few days earlier.

Tanner and his family help us keep our live crops beautiful by hunting before we open. They plan and strategize for months to protect what we’ve spent years cultivating. This is part of the circle of life 🦁 that may be hard to reconcile with your tree plans, but is necessary to avoid damage to our crops and provide the best product to you and your family. It’s a jungle out there—we’re grateful every year you choose our farm. We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks! 🌲🎄

Spring planting at Walnut Ridge Farm has begun! 5000 Canaan Fir arrived last week, in about 10 years (2033 🤓) they will be ready for families to harvest for their Christmas tree. Friday temps were up to 78 degrees, Saturday saw a little snow for windy work in the 30s. We love our year round business 🥰
