💕 An Important Update from Treats by Rita 💕
Unfortunately, Treats by Rita will be temporarily closed while I work through some additional county zoning and permit requirements.
When I started this little business, I did my homework. I obtained my cottage food registration, completed my food safety certification, and made every effort to follow the rules and do things the right way.
Unfortunately, I’ve recently learned that there may be additional home occupation permit requirements for operating a small business from residential property in unincorporated Lake County.
Here’s the frustrating part: Small business owners should not have to jump through hoops just to find out what permits are required. When someone makes the effort to ask questions, follow the rules, and build something from the ground up, that process should be clear and accessible from the beginning.
⚠️ A friendly warning to other small business owners: If you’re operating a home-based business, including a small roadside stand, please check with your local zoning department. A cottage food registration alone may not satisfy every local requirement.
I’m disappointed, especially during one of my favorite baking seasons, but I’m determined to get this straightened out.
💕 To everyone who has stopped by, purchased treats, shared my posts, and supported my little dream, THANK YOU! Your kindness means more than you know.
Treats by Rita isn’t going anywhere! This is just a temporary setback, not the end of something I’ve worked so hard to build.
I’ll be back baking and sharing sweet treats as soon as everything is resolved! 🧁💗
