News headlines this week are making a big deal about the fact that Australia relaxed import restrictions on US beef, but did you know Australia actually EXPORTS beef to the US in large quantities?

Last year, Australia shipped almost 400,000 metric tons of beef to the US (and the US sent 269 tons to Australia.)

Why are we importing Australian beef? Good question.

A lot of the grassfed beef you find in grocery stores (or even online - looking at you, Butcher Box) is from Australia. It's cheaper than US grassfed beef, largely because of land values in the US and the year-round grazing climate in Australia.

But you don't have to rely on Australia if you want grassfed beef.

There are American farmers and ranchers raising grassfed beef in every region of the United States, and many will ship it directly to your door.
