Well Ruby made it home yesterday. She is being treated like a queen in the front pasture. I am amazed she is weight bearing on the single toe already. She might hobble around but she sure gets where she wants to go. The vet said “the cow sure can eat…” I warned him she eats like a horse. We are glad to have her back! She goes back in next week to get a bandage change. Waiting on the removed toe to granulate in. With some luck she will calve out in 4 months. This 14 year old girl might make it though this after all.

Well this is a first for me…. I had a feeling this infection was in the bone, and unfortunately I was right. We have been treating Miss Ruby for an abscess, this was the third week of treatment. She was given a strong antibiotic for the abscess when it first formed. Today she has a vet appointment because she was beginning to not put weight on the leg…. To give you an idea, she was my first Dexter (a 2007 model) and I am not ready to say goodbye yet. She is at the vet right now, we discussed options and I decided to have whole toe amputated. She will be at the vet till Monday with any luck she will be back on the farm and we will have her a couple more years. Just sad to see this girl hurting in anyway, she has lived a life all the way to National Grand Champion female! There maybe a quality of life issue at some point but for now I am ready to have her back on the farm. Saying a little prayer to get her home again.

Y’all know this would have been my child’s costume 😂 who ever did this is great!

I am going to put it out there because we were asked last time about animals going in, I have two hogs and a steer that have dates for process on the 27. Today was medication day- one cow with a lumpy jaw and another cow with a recurrent fungal infection. Vetracin is my friend. The cow with the abscess disappoint me, I made y’all a video thinking it would be like Dr. pimple popper, nope nope nope. Regardless all cows are treated and looking good again.
