Guinea Wrangler Central
Guinea Wrangler Central is the home of the Guinea Wrangler - me – where I breed and raise Helmeted Guineafowl (Numida meleagris). I got my first guinea in 2003 – just hoped that they would help protect my chickens. Which they did very well, and which began my long appreciation for these birds. They have a very interesting and quite sophisticated social structure which makes them even more desirable to keep on a homestead. I can tell you they have not only presented me with numerous quandary to investigate but a myriad of behaviours than range from highly intelligent to down-right comical. They have provided me hours of mental exercise and just plain joy.
I must admit that these birds aren’t for every farm or ranch operation. They can be noisy when they identify an intruder. More than once my birds have escorted a coyote off the property; and they are more than happy to surround a rattler for us to “re-home”. Occasionally they even try to warn off low flying aircraft.
As a result, I have 25+/- different colors in my troups which provide the eggs for my incubation. I hatch keets (baby Guineafowl) from March through June which I sell to the public. I also sell hatching eggs June through August after I have been able to verify fertility levels.
