Bon Cochon Farm

Bon Cochon Farm A small, family owned farm with our pasture raised pigs. We offer feeder pigs, slaughter pigs, meat cuts and processed meats. Molly and Joey Clayton's dreams are becoming reality after less than five years of marriage.
(2)

Molly, an accomplished chef and business owner, and Joey, an aspiring farmer, have combined their passions to create the delicious meals offered by Bon Vie Kitchen. Together, they have built a home and also a thriving business near a small rural town in South Louisiana. A fully licensed commercial kitchen sits adjacent to the home they share with their six children and, nearby, pastures are grazed by a herd of Berskhire hogs, as well as grass fed cattle and lamb. Molly began to realize the importance of knowing exactly where their family's food originated when their daughter was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. She put all of her focus on creating balanced, nutrient dense meals for her family. Meals prepared with ingredients that had not been treated with hormones, antibiotics, pesticides or preservatives. Joey, having always wanted to be a farmer, has also taken action to bring the couple's goals into reach. He grows many of the vegetables and herbs that Molly uses in the kitchen. He also takes pride in raising their prized pastured pigs. Anything which is needed that Joey does not produced on their small farm is outsourced from other local farmers. The couple has enjoyed getting to know the people who embrace the farm life as their livelihood. On a quest to get back to REAL food and using the cleanest possible ingredients, the foodie and the farmer have found their perfect niche in the world: feeding others the high quality meals that they would feed their own family. This is their pledge to their customers. Bon Vie- Enjoy the good life!

“Just before we were married, Joey asked me where I saw my business in the next 5 years. I told him that I could definitely see us growing the food that I produce in our meals. Joey had a good laugh at that and told me that it was a ridiculous idea. Yet, here we are. It's been less than 5 years since that day and while I hate to say I told you so..." - Chef Molly Clayton

Good God Almighty, that's some beautiful pork. We take a lot of pride in what we grow here. For those who aren't in the loop yet: I'm Molly- chef and owner of Bon Vie Kitchen. Its a fully permitted commercial kitchen located on our 15 acre family farm, Bon Cochon Farm. We grow heritage pork on pasture, without the use of antibiotics or growth hormones. It take 1 year to grow out our pigs on pasture, as opposed to 4 months in a commercial operation, where they never see the light of day. Every now and then, while preparing some of our pork (like these beautiful chops), I get a wave of gratitude. Thanks to all of you who support our retail (Local Homegrown Market), our family, and a dream to provide our community with the best food possible. Cheers to the good life.

Picking eggs and admiring my pigs. If a crystal ball had told me 20 years ago that this is what I would be doing now, I would have died laughing. Look who's laughing now.

There are a few foods that are totally nostalgic for me. The end pieces of smoked sausage right after we smoke it, reminds me of sneaking pieces out of the smokehouse with my paw paw (dads dad) when I was young. The crack of splitting the first watermelon on a Sunday afternoon brings back the best memories of playing with cousins, and paw paw (on moms side) always offering the watermelon he grew for our afternoon snack. I love that my husband grows a big watermelon patch every summer.

And well... Fried okra and eggplant 🙊. I traveled for years before marrying and lucking out to live on a farm to raise my family in my home town. Every time I came home to visit, it was always a big treat to get fried eggplant and okra. I guess because it didn't grow elsewhere that I traveled... But that first bite always tasted like home. I don't even remember the last time I ate it, but the harvest brought eggplant and okra this week. So, we fried it up! In Bon Cochon Hog Lard.

Poo lawd. I felt like I was eating lunch at Maw Maws today 💓. And I hadn't done that in damn near 20 years. Happy Sunday!

Here is my sweet little family, sitting on the porch of Bon Vie Kitchen (a fully permitted commercial kitchen) that my husband had built for me when we decided to grow our family. I have been able to work full time, surrounded by the sights and sounds of our family and farm.

Last night, I walked the farm (Bon Cochon) checking on animals, picking watermelon, gathering eggs... Then went into the kitchen with children in tow. They all washed their hands and put "hair necks" on. We put yogurt incubating and checked the kombucha brewing. The kids all tasted the granola and decided that's what they wanted for dinner... Along with a scoop of fresh yogurt and a helping of beautiful local raw honey on top.

And it hit me. This is a dream come true... Making the best possible food for not only my family, but for others also. I love making these hard to find, hard to make, hard to source things easier to get your hands on.

So, thanks again. If I forgot to tell you- I'm having so much fun!

We have wonderful farm friends who are offering CSA programs. What is a CSA? Short for "community supported agriculture, it is an opportunity for the average Joe to pay in advance for a share of the crop in the upcoming growing season. You pay an upfront amount, which gives the farmer running capital to produce the crop. In return, you get a weekly box of vegetables... the creme of the crop, since you are a part owner of this crop.

Our dear friends over at Robin Farms of Church Point, and Prudhomme City Farm Near Eunice are both offering CSA's with delivery to the Acadiana area. Please look them up and consider supporting your local farms.
Both farms have online sign up!
