Bread Garden caters fall weddings at some of Iowa City’s most beautiful venues, and we’ve had the honor of being part of celebrations that people talk about long after the last dance. Grazing boards built from scratch, seasonal spreads made in-house, and desserts from our bakery that have been a guest favorite since 1995.

We're back at the 18th annual Taste of Iowa City, and if you've been to our deli before, you already know what you're getting into. Back to school season calls for a little something extra. All week long (August 23-29), students get $1 off any drink at the Bread Garden coffee bar. Just show your valid student ID and we’ll take care of the rest. Pair it with one of our scratch-made pastries and you’ve got a great start to the school year.

The Grilled Halloumi and Romesco Salad lives on our Wine & Cheese bar menu, and honestly, it's the one we keep ordering for ourselves. Grilled halloumi, couscous, basil pesto, romesco sauce. The kind of dish you order once and can't stop coming back for.

Bread Garden is more than the small bakery and cafe that it started as.

When Jim opened the doors in 1995, the idea was straightforward. Scratch-made food, a neighborhood that needed a place to gather, and a standard he wasn't willing to compromise on. What he didn't know then was how much that commitment would compound over time, growing into a full gourmet grocery, a catering operation, a coffee bar, and a community that has shown up every single day for thirty years.

None of it happened by accident. It happened because Jim kept asking what Bread Garden could be for Iowa City, and then went and built it. A place where you never have to choose between quality and your grocery budget.
