We’re moving to Portugal!

We have been discussing the idea of moving abroad for a long time. Initially we thought perhaps we’d retire to Europe, but in recent years we’ve felt motivated to get the ball rolling sooner than later. Why wait until we’re of retirement age to start living the life of our dreams? And yesterday, after working for several months with a team of consultants, immigration attorneys, and financial advisors, we received word that everything has been approved, and later this summer we’ll be emigrating to the beautiful subtropical island of Madeira.

In the coming months we’ll be listing for sale our fifty acre farm in northeast Vermont, with its recently renovated 3 bed / 1 bath house, gorgeous event barn that seats 64, half acre worth of high tunnels, big heated greenhouse, 2+ acres of established cut flower perennials, nineteen acre fenced-in pasture, walk-in cooler, full-farm automatic generator, and much more. Our sweet pea seed store has been updated with ten new varieties! We finally had an opportunity to finish cataloguing the rest of our 2020 harvest and were delighted to discover a decent supply of ‘Castlewellan' (pictured), 'Clementine Kiss', 'Candyfloss', and a few other hard to find favorites. More than seventy varieties are now available for shipping next week!

Is there anything more comforting than an extra cheesy lasagna? I still have daydreams about our butternut lasagna, made with butternut squash, apple, ricotta, and parmesan.

Today, we'll be cooking and cocktailing just the two of us, fondly recalling this chocolate peppermint baked Alaska that I made for last year's Christmas party. There will be no such showstoppers this year, but we're ok with that.

The world just feels more sparkly this time of year. Probably thanks to this guy and all of our friends and family close to Ardelia Farm & Co.

Although we might be celebrating at a distance this year, we still recognize how fortunate we are to have our health and our home. Here's to making the season bright.

Chicken wild rice soup was a common fixture in our house when I was growing up.

So when I decided to add it to the Kingdom Direct menu, naturally I asked my mother for her recipe.

Wild rice, vegetables, toasted almonds, and Hillside Farm / Pearce's Pastured Poultry chicken combine with garlic and white wine in a rich, creamy, flavorful chicken broth.

It’s hearty and comforting while still being quite light. Thanks mom!
