What comes next? · Agoge Fitness Systems
Things I thought about and wrote down.
http://agogefit.com/what-comes-next/
Hey there,A couple of weeks ago I decided to restart this bog. And I think I got off to a pretty good start. But then it came time to write the second post and I got all clammed up. Everything I wrote seemed forced and I realized that it was because I was trying to preach. Not that I’m all high and ...

Just finished today's workout at the gym. Not as much gas in the tank as I usually have on a Monday. Must have been all those postholes we dug and posts we set getting ready to expand the pig pen at Sunni's yesterday.

Got the power line cleared up to my "new" grill on Thursday. Sunday we reseeded the goat pasture, dug beds for and planted rhubarb, blackberry, and sunflowers and also managed to turn the compost. I love the springtime!

Tomatoes Hate Cucumbers: Secrets of Companion Planting + Popular Planting Combinations | Homestead Guru
For future reference.
https://thehomestead.guru/companion-planting-2/
Did you know that tomatoes hate cucumbers? While they might taste great together in a salad, tomato plants actually dislike growing in close proximity to any member of the curcurbit family, which includes cucumbers. Tomatos love carrots and basil, however – so planting these together will actually m...

Goals.
You can call them aging hippies. Just don't call it a commune.

Too cold to plant at AWS this week. So I stayed home and did some much needed clearing on the acre. This the power line Alabama Power sprayed last year, damaging a Japanese Maple and an Antique Tea Rose. Luckily both survived. I've determined the only way to keep the power company at bay is to manage this strip myself.
I got half of it cleared today, shooting for the other half Thursday.

To Hell with Farming

God knows I had enough to do without sitting and listening to the city people tell me what an idyllic life I had and how they envied me. But I didn't notice any of them grabbing a hayfork and pitching in.

Pig Killing Day, North Yorkshire 1976.
Last week's pig butchering would not have been nearly as successful without the tutelage of Scott Rea's videos and his Thescottreaproject. Check out his YouTube channel, the man clearly has a passion for his craft. I am so inspired by this video he produced showing photos from a hog killing in England in 1976. If only I could have a kitchen like this!

Chore check: I spent all day yesterday in the kitchen. I finished butchering and putting away the pig from last Sunday. I braised a shoulder for supper, rendered some more lard, and de-boned and tied three roasts for future suppers. Then I made country sausage, not exactly my grandfather's recipe but damned good nonetheless.

From humble beginnings. The permaculture project at the Alabama Waldorf School has begun! Yesterday Sunni Sharit Parrish and I began digging the first of two swales (fancy term for ditch) to help control and divert rainwater that washes off the parking lot that sits above the hill we're working. Tomorrow, we'll finish the first swale and start staking out the raised beds. This is an exciting project I'm very proud to be a part of. Stay tuned!

Sweet Christmas! I spent yesterday butchering hogs with some good friends. That is some serious work but now I've got a stocked fridge and the chance to make my own bacon!

Boxing Day chores: took Bronwyn to Tractor Supply for goat feed and pasture seed, spread the seed and used waste hay to cover steep spots while Bronwyn mucked out the goat shed. Took the p**p from the shed and made a p**p lasagne in the compost bin with plenty of dead leaves. I'm expecting a lush pasture and some rich compost come spring.
