A bitter sweet and bella ciao to the land that's nourished our body and soul for over 10 years.
💚
Enjoy this final walkthrough with Faris and I.
🌱
More gardens to come.
More flowers to plant.
And many more memories to share.

Another lovely garden complete by the Braga Family.
Cover crop and green coming soon. 💚
Stay tuned. 🌱

Marigolds, rosemary, sativia, and hostas planted. Few bushes moved to the foreground to make space for it all and add layers.

We think some creaping thyme or horse w**d will make better greenery under the shade than grass.
What do you think?

The U.S. normally imports 1.2 to 1.5 million head of live cattle from Mexico each year to supply American feedlots. In 2025, that flow was cut off after the reemergence of New World screwworm — a deadly livestock parasite — near the Texas border. The screwworm can infest open wounds on livestock and wildlife, and an outbreak in U.S. herds would be catastrophic. USDA made the call to close the border to livestock imports, and it remains closed.

That closure removed a significant portion of the feeder cattle supply that American feedlots depend on, pushing prices for feeders even higher in an already tight market. Combined with the record-low domestic calf crop and drought conditions still affecting large parts of the Southern Plains, American beef production is being squeezed from multiple directions at once. The screwworm situation is a biosecurity issue first — but its impact on beef supply and rancher economics is very real and ongoing.

🌱One of the happiest sights for me is seeing nurseries and gardeners moving a bustling.🌱

Here is Doan's Nursey off of Beltline - two days in a row - loaded up with growers. 14 greenhouses and tons of fruit trees that do great in this area.
💚LOVE IT! 💚

Other notable mentions are:
🌱Chambers Nursery - around the corner from Doans.
🌱Irving Feed Store - other side of Shady Grove from Chambers.
🌱 Grand Prairie Feed Store - tons of seeds in tins for scooping and animals for sale.
🌱 Moon Nursery in Carrolton - pricey BUT mature trees and excellent varieties which they install, maintain, and guarantee.

Other friends and farmers markets can be found on our website. BragaFarmsDFW.com under the Braga Farms Friends page.

🌸 What’s in Bloom — Peach Trees 🍑

The peach trees are lighting up the garden right now…
covered in soft pink blossoms that signal one thing:
Fruit is on the way.

This is one of the most exciting moments of the season —
when bare branches turn into blooms, and blooms turn into harvest.

🌱 What we’re seeing: • Full flush of pink blossoms
• Bees and pollinators getting to work 🐝
• Trees waking up strong after dormancy

🌿 Grower Tips: • Make sure trees are getting full sun
• Water consistently as blooms set
• After fruit forms, thin peaches for bigger, healthier harvests
• Light pruning helps airflow and structure

Every flower has the potential to become a peach…
and every well-cared-for tree becomes a gift that keeps giving.

From bloom → to fruit → to harvest…
This is how we build food-producing neighborhoods.
If your peaches are blooming, drop a photo below 👇
Let’s see what’s coming alive across DFW.

🌸 What’s in Bloom — Almonds 🌸

The All-in-One self-pollinating almond trees are already producing… and yes — they’re setting seeds early.

This is one of those trees that surprises people.
You don’t need multiple varieties.
You don’t need a huge orchard.

Just one healthy tree… and it will flower, pollinate, and produce on its own.

🌱 What we’re seeing right now: • Early blossoms turning into developing nuts
• Strong spring growth
• A tree that’s already thinking about harvest

🌿 Grower Insight:
Almonds love: • Full sun
• Well-drained soil
• Light pruning after dormancy
• Consistent watering (especially during nut development)

Get it established right, and it becomes a low-maintenance producer year after year.

From bloom → to nut → to harvest…

This is what building a food-producing landscape looks like.
If you’ve planted one recently, keep an eye on it — it might surprise you.
