A long overdue update for our CSA – The year 2020 was a difficult year for many of us, and here at Hickory Ridge the impact was acute. Like Lemony Snicket, A Series of Unfortunate Events caused us to have to make some hard choices. We are hoping some of these changes are temporary - but for now we just want to let you know our CSA is wearing a different hat this year. For this year we will not be offering vegetables or delivering weekly share boxes. We will, however, still have chicken! The first batches are already on pasture and doing well. I will post an order form this week, but please feel free to message us if you are interested in fresh, pasture raised chicken.
There’s still much going on here at the farm. We’re learning new things and moving in new directions, strengthening what needs strengthened, culling what wasn’t working. Thank you for your support and continued interest!

Good morning, friends and neighbors! Today is our last big chicken day of the year! We have plenty available for purchase; so, if you want some farm fresh, naturally raised, pastured poultry, send us a message or give us a call! (We should be finishing up around three or so.) Not counting yesterdays crazy storm, the weather these last few weeks has been perfect for our chickens, growin fast on clover and bugs. Send a pm or give us a call if youre interested in pasture raised birds!

We are thankful, though ... Denny had just the day before moved the cows out of that field where the trees landed. And yesterday morning we were greeted by a new little friend. Imagine if they were still over where the devastating wind went through! We're naming her Stormy.

None of us had our phones out yesterday to record the 200 chickens loose in the field after what we're thinking was a mini tornado went through. Starting in the corn fields, you can see the 30 ft wide swath of destruction as the wind took out trees and swept right through all our chicken tractors. 1 was completely destroyed, but we were able to patch 3 enough to gather the living birds. It took the 8 of us about 2.5 hrs to gather all. We only lost about a half dozen, so thank God.

Hey, hey, friends and neighbors! Microgreens are headed out to the usual drop sites (Mint Condition and Waggin' Trains). We'll have the mild brassica mix, curly kale and cilantro! They can be enjoyed individually or, if you feel like mixing it up, try the cilantro pesto recipe! Please wash your veggies and enjoy the freshness!
